Hey mom, can you take me to the mall to hang with Ashley?"
"I can't honey. Your father is on his way home." Mom replied. I huffed in annoyance and left it alone. Every 10 minutes I would bug mom with the same question until she finally gave in. The mall was only a 20-minute drive and mom had something to pick up too. Mom dropped me off at the mall and said she would pick me up in an hour with dad because they had some amazing news. An hour came and went and I didn't hear anything from mom or dad. Ashley's mom picked us up and took me home. Once I arrived home the house was dark and my dad's car was gone. I couldn't understand what was going on. Sheryl, our neighbor, came over and told me that she was taking me to the hospital. That was the first night I had met her son Derek who was 5 years older than me. When we had reached the hospital I had found out that my parents were in a car accident on their way to get me from the mall. My father had minor scrapes and bruises but my mom, on the other hand, had lost my baby brother and she was on life support. That was the last time I had ever talked and saw my mom. That was the night my life changed forever.
