Alla Drake

I grew up on the other side of the mountains that were home to Count Dracula. Now I live, write, paint, watch for UFOs and hunt for Bigfoot in sunny Georgia.

Straightforward account

This is an account of a man's life which, as a life itself, is straightforward, honest and multifaceted. John is a real man, a Christian, a poet, a good man.

Obsidian: Birth to Venus

This book is science fiction at its best; it has drama, fantasy, thrilling adventure, suspense, danger, science, romance and more! It's a fast-paced, captivating read. The story is very well developed and well told. The characters are multifaceted, likable and "real". I was completely drawn into the action. I have a feeling there will be a sequel. I think there should be one. Highly recommend this book to anyone!

It's Never Simple

The beginning is dynamic, fast-paced, and I like it. The dialog is snappy, witty, and quite realistic, perhaps too realistic. I am personally not a fan of crude language in a dialog, even if it does add to the realism. Strong words limit the circle of potential readers, to my mind. This book could have readers from age 12 an up, but if you keep those words, I don't know what bottom age it can be recommended for. But it's just my opinion and preference. I think overall it's a good beginning, it needs only the usual proofreading and editing. Definitely keep going, it's developing into something interesting!

VERY interesting!

This is a very interesting story, and it's told in a very engaging way. I think many reviewers misunderstood the story itself with its dream-like, almost surreal elements. I won't say I understood all its layers, but I enjoyed it tremendously. The author says things in a very original way, rolls images with mastery, I felt like I was there and saw everything with my own eyes. It's a very satisfying read with poignant beginning, unexpected events and, again, satisfying ending. And the storytelling is superb. I highly recommend this book.

First Chapters

From the first sentence, I got pulled into the story. It keeps me in suspense and literally doesn't let me go. I enjoy the conversational, witty and at times humorous style of writing. I like the main character. Lucy has a distinct personality, and though she isn't an angel, I immediately rooted for her. Can't wait to see what happens to her and her friend. The only comment I have is that the paragraphs are rather big and could be split at least in half in many places. It would be easier on the eyes. But it's a minor note and can be easily fixed. I absolutely love the story and the way it's told. Highly recommend!

First few chapters

This is a beautiful magical tale, an easy treat of a read. From the very beginning, there is a lot of enigma, secrets, adventure and beautiful fantastical worlds. It's easy to fall in love with the two sisters. The author weaves an enchanting tale and I can't wait to find out how it will proceed. Sure will keep reading and recommend to others.
Added: just finished the book and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a perfect book to read during vacation or on the bench in the park. Without giving away the plot of the story, I will only say that the characters are interesting and the adventures are wild and at the same time full of 'tender magic' so to speak. I enjoyed going back in the past from time to time to read about the grandmother as a girl. I hope to read more about her and her relationship with granddaughters in the next book, as well as what happened to Sophie. I am hooked and am looking forward to Book2.
