The dark side of the human

Summary

Humans, we're the most complicated creatures that the universe has ever made. For years we tried to understand ourselves, try and paint us in a good light but we find ourselves always feeling tempted towards the dark side. These short stories will appear once in a while to show us that we're not 100% light nor dark... we're just... people.

What is this....?

Remember when you were small when you dreamed of being whoever you wanted to be. Remember the stories your parents told you where everyone lived happily ever after. When the good guys beat the bad guys, when good and evil was as obvious as the empire state building.

Remember the first break up, the first argument, the first time you hear the words ‘murder’ and ‘depression’? When you realize that the world won’t bow down to your feet and you must work hard to have your dreams come true.

That is when you realize that the world isn’t black and white. People aren’t simply good or evil. They’re a little in between. You then realize that you are one of those people as well, not quite good, not evil. People are hard to read, even for the best of people, as much as they say they can read people like a book, you can’t, no matter how hard you try. Looks can be deceiving.

In some way, you’re lucky when you realize all this, you’re not living in a bubble-wrapped world made by your parents to try and protect you. You’re never fully protected and the more they try, the more they cause harm. You’re also lucky to have a lovely family that cares for you and supports you. Not everyone has that... in fact, some kids live in a hidden environment. The danger that isn’t obvious to begin with.

That’s another thing about people... they lie, and they can get away with it. They take another’s life not for the food but for enjoyment, for revenge, or just because they feel like it. Nobody can really understand the human mind. It’s just not possible, not in science. Much to their disappointment.

You’re oblivious when you are little, when you’re wrapped up in sugar and think everything will be okay. No matter what, everyone’s story has got the same beginning, the same end, it’s what you do in the middle is what counts. We’re all born, well most of us and everyone dies. But not everyone can choose when to die.

Other people decide that for them.

Remember the first person you knew had died, maybe, maybe not, but that was when you realize that nobody lives forever, we all got an expiry date.

We question the reality around us and wonder what is real and what is not. Is it that we are all an illusion by some twisted mind or is everything as we know it... doesn’t really exist? That could cause fear, and we all know what happens with fear. People go crazy, the find someone to blame, usually they’re wrong and they just love the drama. Some people add more to the drama for enjoyment, just so they can get the spotlight even though their days have long since gone.

We must accept that part of us, no matter how much we try and hide it. These stories will help you question everything and maybe you might form your own opinions about all this. That’s alright, that’s part of being us. Read on my dear reader and you’ll see what people can be... and what they’ll do to get it...

That’s quite unlike what I’ve read before, and I like it. With all of those content warnings, though, I’m surprised that’s not 18+ 😅.

S.F. Penny: I loved the slow build and even though there was no real fight that threatened their relationship, it was actually a refreshing break from other stories.

PARIS IN THE DARK

Hester: Very good, was short too the point , not lingering on the abuse, pity you didn’t let him step in earlier knowing the abuse was happening, but this is almost real for some women who have gone through it, just wish they could all have a princess at te end of thete tunnel
