"2.75 stars because I finished it. First off, if the author had made this a fantasy romance or aged the characters, some things might have made sense (or not), but if it were fantasy, we would at least understand how Jackie who was raped, starved, and tortured could fight back so well and move on like nothing happened. The girl only remembered her trauma when the author does. Lmao. A girl who told us in the beginning that she failing at school is now telling us she had Bs and Cs. Someone who’d skip classes for weeks and got detention nearly every week. Anyway, onto the main review. This is one of those stories that had potential, but never reaches it. Many things felt like they were still in the planning stage. Like the author forgot where she wanted to take the story but just kept going. Jackie, the female lead was very dumb and so, she was always making dumb decisions, which made this a painful read most times. Even when she was hurt, I didn’t care. I was bored. Makes me wonder how anyone found it emotional. All the people around her were just as foolish, except maybe Angie. We don’t get anything on the male lead beyond him not wanting to fuck his step sister. No life or plans of his own. Then boom, in the last chapter, he’s suddenly talking about college. Anyway, get this: Jackie’s mother, Veronica, wants her daughter to have a better and different life from what she currently has in the MC club. But: 1) Jackie fails at school 2) Jackie has no friends beside those in the MC club 3) Jackie has no job 4) Jackie is surrounded by orgy clubs, fights, and violence 5) Jackie spends all her time fucking, drinking, smoking 6) Jackie has no skills and these are just a few negatives. So what exactly is the grand plan or how is she supposed to have a better life being in the same environment? The most, nonsensical part of it all is the parents forbidding the stepsiblings from having a sexual/intimate relationship. BUT they put them right in the same room. And they sleep on the same bed. Who came up with this shit? You want two 18/19 year old teens not to have anything sexual to do with each other but you shove them into the same room, have them sleep in the same bed. Make it make sense. Halfway into this book, I’d already decided my rating, but I like to finish a book before rating it in case it develops better. And let me tell you, the ending didn’t change my mind. Makes me justified for rating it this way. The female lead remains dumb. The male lead only exists to protect his stepsister (mostly, not fucking her). And I won’t spend my time reading book two. Hopefully this author has better female leads in her other books. Cos this one? She’s the queen of dumbasses. How can you be at a party where an opposing gang is after you. Right after you’re warned not to keep your drink down, you do the exact thing and get drugged and almost harassed. What the fuck? Been a while I was riled up by characters, and I doubt that was the author’s intention when writing this. But then again, what would you expect when you create characters that lack depth and common sense? If you like: - stepsiblings romance - angst/yearning - forbidden love - dumbass female lead - foolish parents - MC romance - unnecessary orgy parties - illogical scenarios then you might enjoy it. This was my first book of this author, and I’ll take a break after this."
