Beautifully crafted story with real depth
"I hardly know how to express how wonderful this story is without spoiling it. But please don't let the story size intimidate you, because it is worth every word. The author took the time to develop Peter and Marty's relationship so beautifully that we get to see them evolve from rivals to tentative flirting, all the way to building a legacy together. They complement each other so well. Marty starts off yearning, doing everything to give their relationship a chance and helping Peter shed his "tin soldier" persona to become a confident musician who actually has fun on stage. And as the chapters went by, I loved seeing Peter reciprocate. He helps Marty deal with his own issues, allowing Marty to be vulnerable and showing us that he is just as complex and in need of reassurance as Peter. Through it all, the author remains honest to their growth and personalities. Even when they make bad or impulsive decisions, there is always context that makes you empathize with them. Both are are flawed, but never unlikable. I LOVED how the story used their struggles to bring them closer together as a stronger couple, rather than to rip them apart. The rest of the band is also fantastic. Nick and Steven are amazing in their own right, and witnessing their entire process from "garage band" to celebrities made everyone feel so real that it was impossible not to root for them. The book also captures the raw energy of 80s rockstars perfectly in the concert scenes. I could rave on and on about all the lovely things about Interference, but I'll just say this book so refreshing because it has a real story to tell instead of just filling out a "romance bingo card"."
FANTASTIC
"Well what can I say about this story? There's so much I could say, so many wonderful things. It's been a ride through my own memories of the 80s, the music scene, the settings, the clothes, it's been so great to take my mind back to when days were easier and life was more free. I particularly love the chapters about Christmas at Peter's parents house, the memories that were brought back were really nice, made me smile, the cramped house full of people, colour, the handmade paper decorations, Peter's mum fussing around feeding everyone, just the cozy feelings it gave me. The characters are brilliant, they've each got such different personalities but they just work. I think my favourite (although I love Peter and Marty and Steven) has got to be Nick, sarcastic, suspicious, with a dry humour that makes me laugh so much, it really defines him. I even ended up feeling a little bit sorry for McIntyre 😅 I guess he'll get over it though, people like him bounce back. And I'm so chuffed that their record company is LIZARD WIZARD RECORDS, because I love that. This is one of the best things I have ever read and I'm so looking forward to reading about Steven and Nick (if that's what the author decides) and following their story. Five stars is not enough to rate this story, there should be ten. If this was a movie I'd watch it every day. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 "
