Beautifully Written

"This story is beautifully written. Between the prose, characters, and descriptions, I was captivated. Typically, I’m not one for historical fiction, but this book had me hooked. Joanna is a compelling character. With her witty comments and intelligence, I enjoyed reading about her. I liked how her relationship with Alain didnt compete with the main plot. Instead, it supported it wonderfully. It was refreshing to read about a female character dominating in a male dominated field. Overall, you did a fantastic job. I look forward to reading more of your work in the future. "

Innovation and love

"A story that draws you in from the very first chapter. Joanna immediately intrigued me with her character, determination, and professionalism. What I loved most was how you portrayed the creative process—how difficult it is to invent something new, and how important timing can be for an innovation to succeed. I can only imagine how much research went into writing this story. Another thing I really enjoyed was how naturally you wove Joanna and Alain's romance into the main storyline. It never overshadowed the plot; instead, it complemented it beautifully. This is a story that blends professionalism, innovation, friendship, and love into one compelling journey. Definitely worth reading. 🤍 #ic10 "

Great writing!

"Your writing style is clean, engaging, and incredibly easy to follow. Joanna immediately stands out as a fascinating main character. She’s sharp, confident, and refreshingly different. I also love how you’ve brought the early days of Silicon Valley to life. The dialogue feels natural, the pacing is strong, and the mix of historical facts with compelling storytelling makes it feel like I’m watching these events rather than simply reading about them.😍 After only a couple of chapters, I’m already invested and genuinely curious to see where Joanna’s journey leads. This story seems both educational and deeply entertaining. Looking forward to reading more!"

Incredibly Engaging

"The story is incredibly engaging, immediately pulling you into Joanna’s world. The author’s skill in expressing her emotional journey, especially her heartbreaks, is truly impressive. Joanna’s journey from the warehouse to the table shows her incredible strength, and Alain’s unwavering support is something to admire throughout the story. It’s so well written that you’ll find yourself completely absorbed in the pages."

A Brilliant, Cinematic Start!

"The first two episodes are a fantastic introduction to Joanna and the early Mac team! The writing feels so sharp, & alive. I absolutely loved Joanna’s entrance, she doesn't try to dominate the room by force, but stands out through her sheer clarity, intelligence, and the courage to ask the questions everyone else is avoiding. Her dynamic with the men around her feels completely authentic, capturing a really great mix of tension, skepticism, and mutual respect. The dialogue is definitely a highlight for me; it’s crisp, purposeful, and does a wonderful job of moving the story forward naturally. The quiet emotional undercurrent between Joanna and Alain is also beautifully handled with a lot of maturity. Plus, the chaotic warehouse setting grounds everything perfectly against all those big, visionary ideas. If anything, a tiny bit more sensory detail could make it even more immersive, but overall, this is a strong, cinematic opening. I'm completely invested in these characters and the world they're building!"

An inspiring journey

"A beautifully written story about the journey of Joanna Hoffman. I fell in love with her character from the very first chapter. She is resilient, ambitious, strong-minded, and knows exactly what she wants. One of the brilliant minds who helped shape Silicon Valley, Joanna's story is both inspiring and deeply human. I truly enjoyed following her journey through its many ups and downs, her successes, her failures, and the relationships that shaped her into the remarkable woman she became. Some of the lines and reflections are so powerful that they stay with you long after you've finished a chapter. The story ends on a hopeful note, leaving the reader with a sense of optimism. All in all, this was a thoroughly enjoyable read."

Empowering♥️♥️♥️

"Her life story was told perfectly. No rush scene, nor forced telling. She didn't needed to be perfect just to change what they built. Her ways. Her principles were empowering— like the scene where she stand up for herself. And didn't flipped so just Steve could get what he wants. She knows her worth. And i loved her through that.♥️♥️ The style itself. It doesn't need to be sci-fi, Nor something grand. It just need human touch for Joanna's life to be told. "

A witty read filled with lots of surprises, even more heart, and tons of sass

"The Reality Distortion Field is a historical fiction based off Joanna Hoffman, an unknown woman who gave Steve Jobs a run for his money. In it, we experience through her eyes the challenges of being a woman in a man's world, as we journey with Joanna as she makes a name for herself. The book is excellently written, with witty dialogue that makes you laugh, makes you cheer, and sometimes makes you wonder what on earth Joanna is thinking. The plot keeps you guessing the whole time and the story moves along quickly. It was very enjoyable and fun to read and I really enjoyed Joanna's wit and personality. It makes me wish I had met her in real life, because I could definitely learn a thing or two from her about how to be self-confident. I liked her a lot, I liked getting to know her, and I enjoyed this book. #IC10"

Trial and Error

"Not going to lie to you, I didn't even know that the story was based off or real people (besides like 2 characters) lol but it was overall such a pleasant read. The story does a great job at showing how ambitions can help push through shortcomings and motivate you to create something new, especially when it comes to creating the future. The dialogue is very fluid and healthy, and the plot does a great job at giving you insight into the characters' personal lives and tribulations, both inside and outside the warehouse! Very fun read, and I'm so glad I spent my time reading it!"

Review

"The premise grabbed me right away: Joanna Hoffman stepping into this chaotic Silicon Valley warehouse in 1980, surrounded by brilliant but wiped-out dudes scrambling to make a computer actually function. It's got that early Apple energy without feeling like a straight Jobs worship fest. She’s the one woman who refuses to get sucked into the hype and actually pushes back, which makes her super relatable and badass. 21 chapters, completed story — nice and tight. The writing keeps things moving with solid pacing, some tense team drama, late-night hustle, and real human moments amid all the tech dreams. A few bits felt inspired by real history (Joanna was legit a key player back then), but it adds heart and stakes instead of dry facts. Not perfect — some dialogue got a tad cheesy in spots — but overall it sucked me in and I finished it faster than I expected"

A Unique Take on Technology

She'll bend but she'll never break ...

"Johanna Hoffman is known for her hard-nose, tough-as-nails exterior and she'll take nonsense from no one, including executives or engineers. After all, that’s what it takes to help change the future of personal computing, which will one day become Macintosh. As marketing manager, it's Johanna's job to make sure that Macintosh becomes a sellable product. But then she runs into a little problem. His name just happens to be Steve Jobs. I love the Steve Jobs versus Johanna confrontation. It's my favorite part in the novel. In fact, I'm kind of sorry that the majority of their arguments takes place off screen. (What author Pi Us supplies is quite juicy however.) I also admire how the author doesn't shy away from revealing the real but sometimes difficult Johanna's personality which was sometimes off putting. But I imagine you gotta be off putting sometimes to push Macintosh into greatness. An interesting story about will power and the determination to never let go of your dreams. "

Story is masterpiece

""The Reality Distortion Field offers an interesting look at ambition, innovation, and the people behind some of the most influential moments in technology. The story captures Joanna Hoffman's strength, intelligence, and ability to challenge powerful personalities while remaining engaging and easy to follow. I especially enjoyed how the author explored the tension between vision and reality. Some sections could use a bit more depth and emotional detail, but overall it's a thoughtful and inspiring read that leaves readers reflecting on leadership, perseverance, and the cost of chasing big dreams.""

Not my genre— but enjoyed this book

"I gave this book a try because the premise about early Silicon Valley sounded interesting. The writing is clean and the author clearly did research into the time period. Joanna is a strong, determined female lead which I appreciated. Personally, I struggled to stay engaged with the pacing. It felt a bit slow for me and I was hoping for more action/plot twists. But I can see why people who love historical fiction and character-driven stories would enjoy this. Thanks to the author for putting in the work!" "

Nice pick for the competition

"Joanna Hoffman is the reason that women can stand up into a male dominated space. Most women today use cheap tactics and politics to get up in this world, I cant fault them for this is survival. yet Joanna didnt have a net to break her fall; 1980's was a bad time to be different, especially as a women. I hope you the best in the competition."

THE REALITY DISTORTED FIELD

"This was a gripping and intelligent opening that immediately pulled me in with Joanna's bold personality and the vivid atmosphere of the early Macintosh project. The dialogue was sharp, the pacing kept me hooked, and I can't wait to see how her clash with the mysterious French engineer unfolds."
