A Murder Foretold

"The author weaves a complex plot that keeps you guessing until the major reveal at the end. The story is well-written with excellent scene settings and believable characters. However, I found the ending to be a tad "deus ex machina" in that there was not enough, if any, foreshadowing, so, although it was clever, it also felt contrived. The author needs to drop more subtle hints into the story to arouse our suspicion. I also found there were too many complications, which eventually became distracting, as if the plot were tripping over its own feet. Same with the multiple character POVs. Who do I root for? While the excerpts from Sydney's story were obviously to both encourage and frighten Charlie, there were too many and took me out of the main story. They were the least enjoyable part because her writer's voice was irritating. So, an interesting premise. A cat and mouse game. Well-written. but would be much more satisfying if the author laid a breadcrumb trail that lead to the denouement instead of dumping it in one lump."
