His Fall
"The author straight away introduces us to the world of Riot and hints towards the drama to come. The drama that will mould our male lead, Tyler, into who he becomes. The quintessential self destructive, bad boy, heartthrob, rockstar with haunting demons. Then we get to meet the lovely Alyson, equally engaging as a relatable and likeable character. Hardworking, good girl, with a damaged soul trying to figure out a way forward in the chaos. In the first ten chapters, we are introduced to how these complex characters, Tyler and Alyson, meet and react to one another. Already we are met with some inner turmoil regarding their feelings. The dialogue is clear and sharp. And drives the characters connection beautifully. The heavy past trauma’s are dealt with sensitively and realistically. We are teased with what may lay ahead. And I for one can’t wait to finish reading this story."
A hard-hitting, no-holds-barred tale of 2 complex characters
"This is my kind of book. What that means is that it ticks all the boxes listed below: □ Real-life characters in a real-life setting. □ Complex male and female leads carrying demons of their past, tons of regret and remorse, and hoping for redemption without actually looking for it. □ Past trauma, empty present, and uncertain future. □ Morally gray characters displaying occasional flashes of genuine humanity and conscience. □ A fluid, easy-to-relate-to, and very contemporary writing style. Alyson is a scarred soul. So is Tyler. She is a nobody. He is the heartthrob of millions. They are poles apart. But are they? A chance encounter leads to unexpected twists and turns, throwing these 2 individuals into a vortex of rapidly changing events, where circumstances are often beyond their control. The pacing is perfect --- neither rushed nor languid. The dialogs are so sharp and crisp that you'll fall in love with them. And for a book dealing with such "heavy" and serious topics as trauma, self-worth, past demons, and suffering --- there is no melodrama at all. No crying sprees, no shouting matches, no over-the-top outbursts. This is no-nonsense storytelling devoid of fluff and flab. This is YOUR kind of book. Isn't it?"
A Plot with Heart and Characters That Carry It
"I found the first 75 pages to have a strong and engaging concept, with a rockstar romance setup that immediately caught my interest. The plot itself is very strong and well-structured, with clear direction and compelling emotional stakes. The main characters feel emotionally layered, especially Tyler’s downward spiral and Alyson’s protective nature and past trauma. These elements made them feel relatable and grounded, and I could clearly see the emotional direction of the story. That said, the pacing was quite slow for me due to heavy reliance on background information and explanation rather than scenes unfolding naturally. At times, it felt more like information was being reported than a story being experienced, which reduced immersion. I also would have liked to see the antagonist introduced more clearly within this section, as the character dynamics still feel incomplete. Overall, it’s a story with strong emotional potential and an interesting foundation, but the execution in pacing and “show vs tell” holds it back from being fully gripping at this stage."
Crash and Burn...
"Tyler's lifestyle catching up to him and his subsequent crash and burn is done well, but what really shines is his recovery - complete with the struggles associated with it. He's an interesting character that shows an increasing maturity as he sobers up. Alyson's interactions with him and their blossoming relationship are sweet and I'm curious how her past will affect his recovery."
