CHAPTER 1 REVIEW
"Plot Clarity & Pacing The pacing is excellent, it feels like a tightening noose. The Hook: The dual threat is very effective. Usually, a story has one "monster," but here Willow is trapped between a known monster (Mark) and an unknown one (the Photographer). The Twist: The photograph of Mark was a brilliant beat. It changes the Photographer from a simple voyeur into a "protector" figure, which is even more terrifying because it implies he thinks he’s doing her a favor. The Ending: The transition from the "quiet" of the house to the sudden abduction was jarring in a good way. It moved the plot from psychological dread into immediate physical danger very effectively. Character Development & Relatability Willow: She is a heartbreakingly relatable protagonist. The way she "nods obediently" to her boss while her stomach gnaws with anxiety is a very real depiction of someone living in a state of constant survival mode. Her "habit of gravity", plating Mark's food even after seeing him with someone else, shows exactly how deep her conditioning goes. Mark: Even though he doesn't appear in the flesh, his presence is suffocating. The detail about him "hating fat women" and the "yellowing bruise" tells the reader everything they need to know about his cruelty. The Photographer: He remains a shadow, but his "careful, deliberate handwriting" makes him feel cold and calculated. Emotional Engagement This chapter is heavy with exhaustion and isolation. The most striking emotional moment for me was Willow eating her pasta standing up at the counter. It highlights her lack of a "place" in her own home. The line "Was she wanted by anyone at all?" is a devastating climax to her internal monologue. It perfectly captures the trap she is in: being "wanted" by a stalker is just as dehumanizing as being "discarded" by a partner. Structural Integrity The "Match" Note: In your first story (Lark), you used matches in a medieval-esque setting. Here, in a modern setting with marketing emails and chemists, the "match" fits perfectly! The Abduction: One small point of clarity, Willow wakes up to pressure on her face (likely a cloth with chemicals), then wakes up again in a vehicle. The timeline is clear, but I wondered for a second if she had locked her windows or if the Photographer had a key. Given how much he knows about her "rhythm," it makes sense that he found a way in, but her lack of surprise at someone being inside her room (replaced immediately by animal panic) is an interesting choice. Strengths & Weak Areas Strengths: Your ability to build "quiet" horror is your biggest strength. The ticking clock, the steam on the windows, and the "brittle" steps all create a visceral sense of anxiety. The dialogue for the abductor ("Fuck!") was a great way to break the silence and show that he is a real, fallible person, not just a ghost. Weak Areas: The backstory about her parents and the age gap with Mark (17 and 23) is very important, but it felt a little bit like "info-dumping" in the middle of a very tense scene. You might consider weaving those details into a later chapter so the tension of "waiting for Mark" isn't interrupted by a long flashback. Brutalité et extrême douceur.
"Une histoire que j ai lue et relue et sans doute bien commentée. J ai été saisie par ce contraste saisissant de protection et de douceur émanant de willow et celui qui tente de la protéger. Au point d en fantasmer. Je préfère ne pas penser au fait qu un homme de 39 ans reluquer une fille de 17 voir plus jeune. Mais cette histoire mérite un prequel centré sur cet homme et une suite. Une vraie suite. Je n ai pas encore lu toutes tes histoires cher auteur, seulement deux et je n ai pas regrette un seul instant de l avoir fait. Des deux je pourrai dire la même chose : douceur au point de nous engloutir sous de douces couettes et d en aspirer notre vigilance. Je pense qu on gagnerait à avoir un tel protecteur dans nos vies. Tu nous a donné à apprécier un vrai positif/négatif entre deux monstres. Celui qui n à aucun contrôle et celui qui dirige patiemment et cache toute sa brutalité sous des montagnes de douceur. Au plaisir de te relire"
A fresh perspective well told
"Such a great story! You are pulled into the story immediately and curious about the motivations of several characters. The romance is a slow burn that feels earned in the end even if you don’t agree with the method used to achieve it. Well worth the read and absolutely a good foundation should you choose to build it out."
Thought provoking
"This totally blurs the lines. I'm not sure if it's Stockholm syndrome or rebuilding someone who is broken. Is it wrong to root for the "villain" to get the girl? I loved every second of the story. Much like the movies that eventually get referenced, this is a beautiful mindf***."

"Unexpected, totally, but amazing nonetheless! Thank you for an exciting plot and making creating very complex characters. The reunion was simple and raw; it didn’t need much dialogue, it just needed to happen. I wasn’t expecting it to happen right away but I suppose he has always been quietly adoring her in the background and couldn’t sit back any longer. I suppose he tried to give Mark so many chances to make different and responsible choices that he never took. Even until the very end, he only thought of himself. "

Willow - An enjoyable, slow building suspense dark romance.
"Willow is a woman in a long term, abusive relationship with Mark. She is quiet with a handful of close friends. Willow is taken by an unknown person with no clues left behind for the police to follow. Willow is a really enjoyable book with only 28 chapters. The story flows well and is engaging. Following Willow's abduction, the story swings between following her partner, her friends, her boss and the police detective investigating her disappearance, and what is happening with Willow during her interactions with her abductor. For a dark romance book, it is not over the top or gruesome in any way. The suspense that is present in every chapter slowly builds to a finale that was totally unexpected. Characters were well written and supported the development of the story and main characters. Perhaps there are aspects that could be done better but having just finished the book and still wrapped up in the conclusion, I just can't think of anything!!"
