"This book is pure perfection! It's well written and entertaining. The characters have dimension and are enjoyable...even the secondary characters have depth (seriously Poppy, I need a Rubdig story as well as a Kula story!). The world building isn't overwhelming but gives you enough to get a feel for the alien world (and station). Largo (MMC) is supposed to be finding a mate. He's the future king of their world which means future heirs must be secured. Ultimately, it's about the choices he makes and it's beautifully done!"
Romantic comedy with the absurdism of inter-species dating
"This story is a romantic comedy with the comic elements built around the absurdism that comes from inter-species dating. Expect aliens of all sizes, shapes and temperaments, with a very wide variety of different expectations about what a ‘perfect match’ might look like. Also expect a wildly invasive paparazzi and inappropriate betting. This story mostly reads as a lighthearted comedy, but it does drop a few very dark jokes. For example a female character that wants to literally eat (cannibalise?)their mate and a character actively contemplating suicide. Some dialogue reads as AI -philosophical in a way that people would never actually speak - rather than natural language. Specific tells that I identified include the repeated ‘Its not A, its B’ sentence construction. 🎥 Multiple perspectives, movement between them is fluid and not signposted. 🤬 mostly clean language. 🔪 low level violence. No scary or intense violent scenes. 💋 no smut or on-scene bedroom scenes. 🔚 the ending is not unexpected. No cliff hangers. "
