Ellie
"Damn it!" I slam my hands down on the table. "How could you?!" I scream into his direction.
" Ellie, I.."
"Don't, Chris. Don't lie to me anymore. Just tell me the truth already."
I fall into the chair as he runs his fingers through his hair. He balances on the arm of the couch. I used to find that so intriguing. Now I just want to run at him and shove him off of it.
He sighs.
"Ellie, you're right. You deserve the truth." He looks up and I see the tears in his eyes. "I should have told you sooner. It wasn't something I planned. We were just coworkers, and then friends. And then one afternoon we went to lunch together. And it just happened."
"When?"
"What?"
"When did you sleep with her?"
"Two months ago. You weren't supposed to find out this way. I'm sorry. It was a mistake. Believe me, if I could go back and change it I would."
I feel the breath leaving my lungs. I can't breathe, I can't move. I close my eyes and crumple the paper in my hand. The letter I got in the mail today from a woman I didn't know. And the words written inside that shattered my world. This wasn't happening. We were in the middle of planning our wedding. Two months away from the date we set last summer. And now I find out that he cheated, and she's pregnant.
