Chapter 1

Suzanne's p.o.v-

I tied my hair in a rather ugly messy bun. I was stuck in a traffic jam for half past one hour now in my old blue Chevrolet Silverado. No matter how old my baby girl was, I will always love her. My aunt told me that my parents had gifted me this beautiful piece on my eighteenth birthday. My aunt and my truck are the only two constants in my life apart from my best friends Adrian, Brenda and Daniella.

I tapped my fingers on the steering wheels. I rarely get irritated, I was the person who doesn't get annoyed easily but gets stressed on another level. I have to deliver sixty cartons of cupcakes to the hill mansion along with fifty cartons of different sweets and snacks. I had to hire two more trucks to deliver the large amount of cartons which had thankfully got delivered earlier this morning. Since we were running out of time and employees, I decided to deliver these last batches to the hill mansion myself but now it seems to be taking forever to reach my destination.

The people whom I am delivering to were said to be one of the most influential and powerful businessmen in the city. We were shocked to our core when we got the email from the Lykaios industries to arrange the dessert section for their grand party.

I was not going to lie but there were many big bakeries who would easily die and would feel honored to serve the Lykaios industries so it was such a shocker for us when we got an order from such an ace company because we too weren't the exceptions.

The orders were huge and time was less but somehow we baked everything from scratch since we wanted the cupcakes, muffins, cakes and other desserts to be fresh and soft.

I blow the air from my mouth. Now, I was getting stressed. It wasn't unusual here to have traffic jams in Kempton but today I have to be on time.

After another good fifteen minutes the traffic got cleared. I pressed on an accelerator since the hill mansion was still fifty minutes away.

My eyes widened and soft gasp escaped my mouth. The sight before me was unbelievable. Whoever named the hill mansion really did a great job not only in name choosing but also with the architecture.

The outer part of the mansion was hill like but it was stark white. Each corner of the outer mansion has pointed towers like buildings making it appear like a magical house straight out of cartoon movies. Large eagle statue was placed in the middle of the driveway making a clear circular path.

I drive around the large statue. I was a little embarrassed when a valet immediately came to my side. God bless my beautiful aunt who made me change into a decent dungaree but my hair was still in a nest-y bun but i couldn't care less i was here to serve them not to attend the party as one of the guests.

"Ehh, I have brought the last batch of dessert cartons. Can you call somebody to help me deliver these to the main kitchen?" I said politely.

The valet nodded his head. He called over through his bluetooth.

In two minutes there were more than ten guys dressed in what seemed like expensive waiter dresses.

"I can bring the last carton." I said shyly to one of the waiters as I was standing nearby my truck.

"It's okay miss, we have got it handled." The waiter responded politely.

"You are Miss. Matthews right?" A guy approached me in a well tailored suit. From looking at his appearance he seemed to be one of the guests or may be in incharge of the staff.

"Yeah?" I shook his hands awkwardly.

"Hello, Miss. Matthews. I am Clark Eddy in advance. His secretary already tested and approved the samples we had baked for them a week prior.

"Are you sure? There wasn't any mention of him speaking to me at all. I don't own the shop, it's actually my aunt's. I am the only baker there and sometimes I deliver the orders too. I don't think I am the right person whom he wants to speak with." My face turned red when Mr. Eddy quirked a small amused smile.

"Don't worry, Miss. Matthews. I am sure Mr. Lykaios knows it all and for the speaking part I know nothing of. He is a busy man so if you could hurry I might not get fired." Mr. Eddy said, taking a look at his watch.

I trembled in my shoes. I wasn't the meet and greet type of person. I rather stay in my kitchen than to meet people in person. I was the very definition of introvert. I wordlessly nodded my head as there was no way out.

I obediently followed Mr. Eddy. The inside of the mansion was just wow. From glass ceilings to delicate chandeliers, the polished Italian marbles and french doors. I never saw such a beautifully, gigantic inbuilt aquarium in my life. It literally covered the never-ending ultra-luxurious corridor.

My eyes sparkled on seeing so many varieties and species of fishes in just a few minutes. I have a great love for pets. I tapped on a glass slightly and my eyes widened in pure bliss when more than five fishes started wagging their little tales to me.

"Miss. Matthews, we are here." Mr. Eddy clears his throat. I quickly withdrew my hands and stuffed them in my dungaree's front pocket.

"Please go inside. He is waiting for you." Mr. Eddy said professionally.

I thanked him before knocking on the door. I heard a muffled noise to enter.

I opened the and once again was mesmerized by the interior of his office.

"Welcome, Miss Matthews. I hope you haven't had any trouble getting here." I was sure I had seen the face of this powerful man but wasn't sure where. He was strange to my eyes and ears but still looking known to me. Weird, I thought.

"Mr. Lykaios, it's a pleasure to meet you." I squeaked out in nervousness. Oh shoot, my anxiety about meeting new people was kicking in.

"Same here." He held his hand out to shake mine. I dumbly stared at it like it was some alienated object.

"My bad, I haven't introduced myself. I am Darius Lykaios and I have been eagerly waiting to meet you since the day I tasted your handmade mouthwatering and delicious cupcakes. I couldn't come to meet you earlier since I was a little busy with my work. But now I am glad I finally got to meet you in person." He took my hand in a firm handshake, making me shrink in my shoes.

"Thank you." My voice got dimmer. Maybe I became a better actor or the guy in front of me was kind enough to ignore my obvious nervousness and shaking of hands which had already made me sweaty.

"I am afraid I won't be able to entertain you longer but I will appreciate it if you attend the party. I am sure you will enjoy other cuisines as well." The six foot tall handsome guy before me said in a pleasing tone.

Do I know him? No. Have we met before? Never, Is it some sort of twisted prank? Maybe.

Then why? Just why? Is it a dream or I unknowingly entered an alternate universe where ugly, beat up girl bumped into a kind hearted rich guy and who rather quickly took her into his wing because right now I was feeling like one and guess who couldn't say no to him? Yeah, that would be me.

I was now standing in a side corner in my faded old dungaree watching elite people chatting enthusiastically among themselves in their customized dresses which probably cost more than my life.

Five minutes more and I would be out of here. I sipped on my mocktail. I shyly ate some grilled veggies and cheese with sauce and small rolls.

I licked my lips and decided it was time for me to disappear like I was never present here. Luckily, no one bat an eyelash towards my direction. They must be thinking I was one of the staff members which was partially true.

"Madam, do you have a pass? How did you get here?" One hulk of a man in black suit approached me.

"I-uh-." I was taken aback by the sudden loud question. So much for not getting noticed!

"Are you one of the staff members? Where are your assigned clothes?" He took a hold of my bakery card which I retrieved from my pocket.

"See Miss, you're an unofficial worker so I will ask you first and last time to leave the party this instance. Don't you know no workers are allowed to eat and mingle with these people? Take your plate and get out of here." His voice was rough and harsh. His accusing eyes glanced me from head to toe and with the way his face twisted into disgust, clearly told me he didn't like what he saw.

I didn't need to be told twice to run away from there. Second hand embarrassment was real as crystal but don't take my embarrassment as if I was ashamed, which I was not. I could always get flustered easily but I wasn't a crybaby.

I have developed a tough and thick skin over years. I got into a car accident two years back and I have been suffering from memory loss ever since. I don't remember my childhood and my teen years.

I have lost my parents in that accident and you know what was more painful than losing my memories? My parent's beautiful faces. I don't even remember my parents' faces, let alone my aunt who took it upon herself to take care of me single-handedly. My room was full of photographs from my childhood to my teens years. These last two years were just me learning a thing or two about myself.

Even though I didn't recognise my aunt when I came out of the coma, still I instantly started adoring and loving her even more. She was my only family left and me to her.

"Hey! Watch out." Someone screeched, making me stumble upon my feet.
