Scar leaned over Aiden's limp body, her hand coming up to his forehead. Her trousers were stained with his blood, and even though she had tried to clean it up with first aid and all, she could still see the glaring red.
Hell, how could they do this to him? He may be well built and all, but he was practically the one who grew up looking at flowers. And puppies. And ice cream. Not guns. Not blood. Not gore.
She swallowed as she checked him again. He wasn't moving. She cussed for the hundredth time, her fingers pushing her hair back as she did.
Suddenly, she felt him stir a bit, and her eyes widened as she leaned over him again.
"Aiden?"
He turned his slowly opening eyes to her, his beautiful greenish blue eyes coming into slow view like a blooming flower.
"Sunshine?"
And hell, he was the only one who thought she was sunshine. Everyone else knew she was Scar.
"Yes, it's me. How do you feel?"
He said nothing, before he slowly sat up, his head leaving her lap and his hand came forward to cradle his throbbing head.
"I am so sorry, Aiden, I..."
"Are you guys...no. Are they going to kill me? Are they really going to kill me?"
She swallowed. Most probably. Her father wasn't so forgiving, and Aiden had seen too much, known too much, and hell, done too much. Including swaying his only daughter with those heavenly smiles, two dimples sucked in, the way he looked at her like he knew the things he did to her mind. To her heart. It was crazy, and yes, she was going crazy.
She didn't say a word, and he suddenly leaned forward, resting on her shoulder. He was finally scared. After all that time that he kept his composure, now he was scared, and it unnerved her to hell and back.
"Am I really going to die?" He asked again and she immediately shook her head.
If only he knew what she thought of him. Like her little precious gem. Like she wanted to protect him forever. Like she wanted to watch him with puppies and popsicles while he forgot there were bad people like her in the world.
"No, no. Of course not. I will be here. Don't bother about what happened, or anyone. I will be here with you. Okay?"
He said nothing, just pushed his face further into her neck. She brought her hands to caress his slightly damp hair from the water she had used to wash off the blood and she gave a small sigh.
"And you know what, Aiden? If you want your puppy here, that damned little puppy you were with back at the shelter, I could bring it. Your favorite stuff, everything. I will take care of you. I will make sure none of them..."
He swallowed, then pulled away from her, his eyes lowered. "Don't baby me like that," he said, his voice a very small whisper.
"What?"
He swallowed, his fingers drawing something only he could see on the floor. "I said, don't baby me like that."
Scar swallowed. "But why?"
Slowly, he looked up to her, and then gave a small sigh. "I don't want to be treated like a baby by the woman I am in love with."
