Madeline's P.O.V

I ran into the woods I kept on panting having no time for air to circulate in my body. In as much as I wanted to stop and catch my breath I couldn't they were behind me and they were fast. They are called The Elders of the dark and they walk in darkness.

If you watch the darkness closely you are able to see four shadows yes they are four elders who rule our land. Our land is in their hands and they can do anything to anyone but if you try to rebel you die for to them there is no second chances.

Our Queen mother has just died and no one knows who killed her but I have a strong feeling that The Elders of the dark killed her because I know they have always wanted to rule this land.

Before I continue let me introduce myself. I am Madeline Lopez and I am one of the protectors of this land. The Elders are after me because I did something that is an abomination and they want me dead. I'd like to tell you more about me but that's your little assignment.

I kept looking behind and the darkness was really close you know it was really walking towards me and each plant it passed it died or lets say it withered. Definitely I was scared but I know how to cover fear I've been learning ever since I was young.

It was getting closer and closer by the minute just then I tripped and fell then looked behind. I'll die today but I don't want to die because I have a family waiting for me at home. Suddenly a portal opened up and I jumped inside then fell on my ass. I landed in my house then a man stood in front of me and helped me on my feet then hugged me.

"I thought I had lost you I know I was late but I don't know what I would have....."

I didn't let him finish. I placed my index finger on his lips.

"I am here so don't worry am fine" I assured him. "But what if I was late"

"You were not now let's go and see our girl."

We walked to her room and she was playing with her toys. I smiled and looked at her she is so adorable. Though we are happy we don't know how tomorrow will be.

To survive in this land one has to bs grateful because you may never know today you are alive and kicking but tomorrow you may die. So we live today as we can. Now that's our life.

I did some house chores as Loyd( my husband was busy in the fields ) I really love my family and I hope we stay that way. My husband is also a protector but right now we are protecting each other.

I was standing at the door thinking about The Elders. Those people are merciless but I know one day someone will stop them.

"Hey honey are you thinking about the Elders?" Loyd asked me. I gave him a nod then I looked at him.

"Our people are fighting for their life while we are here we are called protectors so that we can protect them" I told him.

"Yes but they want us dead so it is better we stay here for our child sake" I sighed.

"Hey don't worry" he held my face with his hands and we were looking at each others eyes.

"We promised to always fight together and to watch each others back so we are safe when we are together" I smiled at him.

"But how can we fight them yet we can't see in the dark?"I asked him.

"Yes we can see" he told me. Wait am I missing something here.

"How cause I can't see or can you see?" He smiled he nodded. He has been hiding this from me. I left him outside and walked in the house.

"Come on baby I am sorry" I shrugged him.

"Madeline ok I can explain" He grabbed my arm and turned me. "How can you hide something like that from me I thought we are not supposed to keep any secrets"

"I am sorry please forgive me" I hugged him. I don't like when we argue with Loyd even though he hid it from me yet we are married for six years. I get it I am his wife and he has to tell me everything but sometimes people hide somethings from their partner because they don't know how they will react or they are afraid their relationship might be broken.

The rest of the day went on smoothly until at night.

I woke up the next morning and looked at Loyd. "Morning Babe" "morning"

"Are you ready for this day?" He asked me.

"Yes am ready" I heard Malicia (our daughter) crying. I got out from bed then grabbed her and fed her. I took her outside so that she can play as I do some work.

I started having a bad feeling that something bad is going to happen and I wouldn't like it. I tried to shrug it off but it kept on disturbing me. I shared it with Loyd but he told me it's because I've been thinking about The Elders.

As I was in the house I heard Malicia crying and I went outside I grabbed her and soothed her. Loyd was running towards us.

He approached us and said,"You have to leave" "why? Is something wrong?"

"They are here The Elders" I was dumbfounded.

"How did they find us" "they will be here in a few minutes, take Malicia and leave"

"Wait you want to fight them alone" I asked him. "I have to for your sake"

"No we promised to fight together" "You said the other day that we can't fight because we can't see"

"So you will fight them because you can't see this is unbelievable" "Trust me please they will kill you" I can't change his mind he is so stubborn.

I hugged me "promis me that you will come back to us" I told him "you know I can't promise that."

"I know but please come to us okay. I'll be waiting for you"

I didn't realize I was crying until he wiped my tears. I'll miss him that's for sure but it's okay.

"You have to go Madeline. I love you." I put my forehead on his and held his neck. "Try to survive please Loyd I love you so much" he kissed me it was a passionate kiss we poured our emotions our pain, our anger in that kiss, maybe it will be the last kiss no one knows but I will cherish all our memories.

We stopped kissing and looked at each other. "Protect her Madeline she is our warrior" he placed a bracelet on Malicia's wrist then kissed her.

"Daddy loves you Malicia be safe" he opened a portal I looked at him for the last time then jumped in the portal.

I fell and looked around we are in a new city that means a new beginning I hope I'll survive and protect our girl.

I looked at Malicia. "Hey princess now it is you and mummy I hope we will live to see other days."

I really hope Loyd will be safe. As for me I need to look for a new place.
