Chapter 1
I love watching the sunrise in the morning. It makes me start the day with a smile. I always try and make sure I get up early to get here on time before the sun even rises over the water. And then listening to the waves in the background is like music to my ears. I just love being up here. Sometimes, I even wish I could live up here.
Living on the beach in a little cottage, waking up early to see the sunrise and watching it set in the afternoon, listening to the waves as I fall asleep, and maybe, even having someone to watch it with me. Someone I love and who loves me back. I smile at that but then shake my head. That will never happen. Why?
Because who would ever love me for me? They would only see me as a pretty face and no brains. Or just see me as an easy lay. I sighed, I am not a whore. I won’t give myself to someone until I know that they want to be with me forever. I shook my head at those negative thoughts. I shouldn’t be thinking of that right now. I should just imagine what it could be like up here.
And maybe if I imagine hard enough, it might just come true.
I was soon interrupted by these thoughts by my sister Aroura, calling out to me. “LUNA! WE BETTER GET GOING”. I look over to where I heard her and sighed. “I’M COMING” I yelled back. I jumped off the rock I was sitting on and dove into the water.
I swam over to my sister and then looked up at the surface. Where I could still see the sun rising over the water. I sighed. My sister saw my face and put her hand on my shoulder to comfort me. “I know you don’t like leaving before the sun has fully risen, but dad wants us home. Said it was urgent” she said and then started swimming away. I nodded my head and started following her back to our house.
On our way there, I watched as all the clams started opening their shells and all the fish started to come out from under the coral or rocks and swim past us. I smiled at them as they swam and gave us a little wave. Well, I imagine that they waved when really, they just looked our way and kept swimming. Then I see some dolphins heading our way and they started swimming around us for a bit. Nodding their head to say hello and then start swimming past us to greet the world above. I smiled and kept swimming forward.
Most days I would even follow them and greet the world with them. But that’s only if I run a little late. Which isn’t that often but I enjoy the moments I do. “Luna? You okay” She asked. I nodded at her but realized she couldn’t see me because she is ahead of me and not looking back.
“Yea I am just admiring everything around us,” I said. She looked back at me smiling. I smiled back but then I started thinking about dad. “What do you think is so urgent?” I asked her. She shrugged. “I don’t know. He just said to come and get you. But as I was leaving, I saw the king’s carriage in the distance. It must be urgent if he is coming” she said with a worried voice.
My eyes widen. The king? Why would he be coming to us this early? I hope everything is okay.
As we got closer to our house, I started to see the outline of the king’s carriage. I look at my sister and she looks back at me. We both had that worried look on our faces and started swimming faster. As soon as we reached the door, we looked at each other, then started slowly opening the door. We were taken by surprise when we opened the door. Because as soon as we opened the door, we had spears in our faces. We raised our arms and then started looking around trying to look for our dad.
What the hell is going on?
