You could say that Jake Franklyn had a thing about films. He liked to think of himself as an authority on 20th century films and those that thought they knew him would undoubtedly have called him a film buff, although others unkindly said he was a bit of an oddball. He was tall, broad and ruggedly handsome with a quiet manner and a twinkle in his eye. Jake made it his business to get hold of almost every new film release from period drama to chick-flicks and thrillers to horror and science fiction and any and everything in between. The only films that he really tended to avoid were cartoons of any description – he admired the skill behind them but the subject matter almost always left him cold. Because of old connections, he was frequently able to source the latest films before general release and word was that Franklyn’s was not any old film club and membership constantly grew.

He had started the club in order to share both his passion and his knowledge and word soon spread that Jake had his own very large viewing room which had plenty of comfortable seats and sofas to lounge in whilst you watched the films that he had selected. He always provided a synopsis of each film and for just a few pounds in weekly membership fees he would supply food and drink too.
