Chapter 1
"The butterfly is a nice touch."
The laces, when tightened, make my ankles look thinner.
Jenny noticed I put on weight.
When we hung out the next week, I wore my long olive green strappy sundress with a black mesh long sleeve shirt with my black combat boots laced up to where it met the hem. It’s such a nice outfit with my satchel and sun hat.
She noticed I looked like a lost a few pounds.
I smiled the whole time we walked to her car from my porch. When I got into the car, she put her hand on mine and told me how happy she was to see that I was taking care of myself. She loves when her friends take her advice.
Jenny is the best.
We went to Starbucks and had a whipped matcha latte with extra cream. Jenny got hers sugar free and said “this is the indulgence I’ve been saving for the whole week. thanks for tagging along. You’re not going to drink the whole thing are you?”
It stayed in my head the rest of the trip.
No. I’m not going to. Maybe half. It does have 68g of sugar.
When we walked through the Washington Square Park, Jenny asked if my feet hurt.
She looked at my shoes.
“Those boots must be heavy. Buy some shoes like mine.”
Jenny modeled her shoes for me. They were espadrille wedges that laced up.
“See, you can lace up these shoes. See how pretty they make my feet and legs. So feminine. I love them.” We went to her favorite store and I bought the same pair of shoes in a slightly bigger size.
I put them on and looked in the mirror. “They look great. It honestly works better than the boots. I just liked the butterfly on them.” “Live and learn Hun.”
I wonder if Jenny knows how much she means to me.
“Want to go for a salad? Hungry yet?” “Sure.”
Jenny has the prettiest blonde hair a mix of pale blonde and strawberry blonde. Her ocean blue eyes sparkle. They are so big and her eyelashes are so thick! She looks like a porcelain doll. Her lips are full and more red than pink. They almost look silly. Her skin is perfect. I feel lucky to be her friend.
“Listen, I’m thinking I’d like a salmon skin salad with a lot of water. So thirsty. How about you?”
“I’d like salmon with asparagus and cucumber water.”
“Wow. Sounds yum. Can’t wait.”
“Jenny, how did you know what to eat for your diet? How is your skin so perfect?”
“Oh, my mom is really knowledgeable. Plus, I go to a nutritionist once in a while and get tips. I’m trying to stay as lean as possible. My diet is really about staying lean and keeping my skin clear. I drink 96oz of water a day and a ton of green tea. I even fast once a week.”
“Really? You’re so dedicated. It shows.”
“Oh Hun, you’re pretty too. You’re so sweet. Come here.”
I hugged her.
