A promise
"I was raised feral, and I
mostly stayed that way."
Gillian Flynn, Dark Places (2009)
The hot summer day had been interuppted by a sudden tunder strom, which sent the two betrothels running back into the safety of vanderhall. Cheese and pasteries left to ruin in the rain.
The two misfits of 17 had been engaged for 2 months at the relentless insistence of Uncle Wilmber, Dowager Charlette Tewksbury , Mycroft Holmes and at least 3 dozen nobles.
However Enola and Louis would not be married until Enola's 21 Birthday. A small concession from the two familes.
"Well that was an unfortunate coincidence" louis stated in slightly amused tone.
"It would seem that God is not on our side" I responded without giving myself a second to ponder the weight of my words.
Tewksbury knows whats bothering her. He knows her. Despite her cloud of mystery and a talent at keeps secrets that could fool anyone but me.... and Sherlock Holmes of course, her most beloved brother.
When Enola was informed of her impending marrige of which she did not forsee happening in many years if not ever.
"Your worried about the society lords and ladies." He states in a gentle and factual manner, leaving no room for her to insist otherwise.
He release a soft sigh at her silence "Once they get to know you" he leans closer to her in the water socked clothes "they will adore you as I do." He finishes with a kiss on her shoulder.
I couldn't help myself but jerk away from his touch and say with a proud and frusterated voice "I do not wish to be known or adored." This leaves a deafening silence in the room.
We each stare at eachother while taking deep breaths. Louis is the first to break silence," Tell me what you want and I will bring it to your feet"
Enola's gut clenchs at the raw honesty in his words. She knows he can't fulfill her dreams, those our her respnsibilties.
