Chapter 1
I watch from the shadows, studying how he moves. Deadly, slinking silence, feline like speed as he strikes. He drags his prey back to his camp and begins to prepare it.
I know he’s not human, watching his raven fur melt into smooth cocoa colored skin. His locs fall down his back stopping just before his waist. I am mesmerized.
In the world of were beings, felines are rare, but they do exist. Panthers are even more rare. We thrived in Africa for centuries and decided to try our hand in America.
We live in a town called Silver Hollow. It's a town made up of humans and others. There are many different beings that live in this town. We shifters tend to keep to ourselves, but we work and play with humans.
Our town is special because the humans know we exist. We have lived in harmony for centuries, but like every town there are ones that don't want to or just want problems.
Things are good right now, which can only mean Jynx's law can go into effect. Jynx was a young witch, she went into the woods in the far west of town. Those woods are weird. Magic doesn't work right there. Any spell done there can go all wrong. For Jynx, she found out all too late. She cast a vanity spell to make her more appealing for her crush.
She cast her spell perfectly, but because of the odd effects of doing magic there, someone found poor jynx, looking nothing like she did when she went in. Jynx was a tall bronze girl. Her hair was stick straight and dark as night. Her skin was smooth and mocha.
When she was found her beauty was gone. She shrunk about four feet, and instead of smooth skin; it was now hard and leathery, like a gator. She lived for another century before she died of a broken heart.
