Act I, Scene 1
Fade in:
Ext. Mountaintop - Dawn.
The grass, gently blowing in the wind is disturbed by a small animal rushing past, followed by a young boy. The child’s laughter fills the air.
EX, a 12-year-old wild boy wearing faded and torn clothes with matted hair flopping over his face like a mop, tumbles as he catches the small pig. The baby pig oinks happily in the boy's arms.
Ex looks towards the setting sun, hiding behind the mountains in the distance. His smile grows. The pig follows the boy's line of sight to the sunset and back to the boy.
Baby pig
(Oinks)
You’re not going to the village tonight, are you? You know it’s dangerous!
The boy smiles as he puts the pig down on the ground and stands up.
Ex
(Animal Noises)
It’ll be fine, I do it almost every night. The humans are so strange.
BABY PIG
(Oinks)
And dangerous!
Ex runs towards the edge of the cliff and turns to respond to the baby pig, yelling over his shoulder.
EX
(Animal Noises)
Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.
BABY PIG
(in Oinks)
Be careful!
Ex runs towards a tree awkwardly growing out the edge of the cliff. He runs up the horizontally ascending trunk and disappears behind a group of rustling leaves and branches.
He re-appears out the other side of the tree in the air, mid-leap. A long rope looped several times around his shoulder, the other end trailing off back between the leaves.
Ex descends rapidly parallel to the side of the mountain with a large grin on his face. The rope unravels from his shoulder.
The rope reaches its capacity and pulls back at Ex just before reaching the ground. The ropes elasticity retracts, flinging Ex up a few feet into the air.
Ex flips forwards in the air several times and lands on the rocky dirt terrain.
