Prologue
The dawn held the chill in the air, laced with a blurry mist around the estate.
There stood a vastly spread, two-story mansion, looking like a mini palace.
Corridor lamps were still lit, as sunlight wasn't sufficient enough to brighten the interiors.
Three men headed towards the study, occasionally discussing something in a soft tone. Their footsteps echoed around the manor, breaking the eerie silence of the dawn.
The older men seemed to be in their mid-forties, and the young man who accompanied them looked to be in his early twenties.
As soon as they entered the study, their conversation halted abruptly. All three of them froze in their places for a moment.
Soon, a soft, warm smile stretched on their faces.
There was a young girl around 15, sitting on her father's chair, keeping her head above her arms on the desk, and sleeping peacefully.
Papers and pencils were scattered all over the desk, and the laptop wasn't shut. All three of them shook their heads, smiling at the adorable girl.
Her father rushed to her and tried to wake her up. "Hey princess, come on, wake up now," he cooed.
She didn't move but mumbled something incoherent in her deep slumber.
He frowned, looking at the mess she made of his desk.
"It looks like...our sunshine has been working on the current crisis all night. Look at this, she pointed it out, uh... Almost!" Another middle-aged man mumbled, amused.
"Unbelievable! See this...she knew where to look!" The man continued, skimming through the scribblings on the papers above. A warm appreciative smile spreading on his mouth.
Her father laughed. "No wonder... she must have been listening to us last night." His fond gaze lingered on his princess. "My sneaky little pumpkin."
Smiling at his best friend and partner, he tried to lift his princess, intending to carry her sleepy form to her room.
The tall young man who came with them stepped ahead to assist. "Let me, Uncle Drew," he offered.
Her father looked at him, a smile stretching wide on his lips. "Sure, son." He backed away a little, mumbling, "Careful."
The young man nodded in reply. It's not the first time he is doing this.
He lifted her carefully, supporting her weight on his arms. No, not in a bridal style, but like a baby.
Facing towards him, her head laid on his shoulder, legs dangling on both sides of his waist, he carried her to her room.
This is how he carried her since she was a baby.
Both men stared at them, smiling fondly. Well, why not? They were meant to be together.
"Triton suggested the same solution, which, she pointed out, she is learning fast," the man gestured while continuing. "At her age I could barely figure out what the problem is; solving is far away," Jayson Stone said, laughing.
Her father, Andrew Grande, laughed at that, nodding in agreement. "True, but Ocean is unique," he sighed, thinking deeply.
"How fast they grow! Can't believe she is 15 already. It feels like yesterday when she barely fit in my palms, but now…" He sighed.
His friend patted his shoulder.
Triton carried the sleeping Ocean to her room. The room, in which everything was blue. All shades of blue, every corner of it.
Her favorite and most obsessed-over color. Blue is his color too, especially the color of her eyes...
Ocean blue.
He carefully laid her on her king-sized bed. She stirred but fell asleep. He tucked her in blue sheets after removing her shoes.
Sitting next to her, he kissed her forehead and couldn't help but caress her cheeks.
"Tri, stop it.... I want to sleep; don't … bother me." Ocean mumbled in a sleepy voice. If he weren't near her, he could have missed it.
He chuckled in a familiar excitement. "How do you know it was me?" he asked, grinning mischievously.
Ocean mumbled incoherently, "Hmm... You smell..."
He frowned. "Smell?"
"Umm hmm... you smell... good," she said, words jumbled, her eyes still closed. She sounded adorable.
When the words sank in, his eyes widened. He bit his cheeks to control his smug smile. "Aren't you a little young for that?" He couldn't stop from messing with her a little.
"For what, to… smell?" A frown adorned her adorable sleepy face.
He facepalmed.
"Um... Since when do I smell good?" he couldn't help but play with her. This is his favorite game, because she can't lie in this condition.
"Always," Ocean blurted. "You are... different on Gala night," she murmured again.
He bit his lip, smirking, amused. 'That was two months ago.' "Do I just smell good or look good too?" he questioned, leaning on his elbow on the free space on her bed.
She rolled over. "I won't tell; it's embarrassing, and … you will … tease me," she muttered again.
All this time she didn't open her eyes at all. He bit his fist so as not to make noise while laughing.
"It's just a dream, and he won't know about it," he tried to push her. "Do you have a secret crush on me, little one?" he asked, playfully.
"Aah… go away." She mumbled and hid her face in the pillow and dozed off.
He laughed and got up, kissing her head again.
"Sleep, little one." He uttered fondly, and he left, closing the door, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
He often does that, as she has this peculiar habit of talking in her sleep. And won't be remembering any of it by the morning.
A pair of eyes watched all of it, seething and boiling inside!
