Ch 1 | Handshake

Y/N's POV:

It's a pretty typical Saturday for you. You just had brunch with your best friend, Nanami, and are about to head home.

"I'm telling you, this one is different," Nanami whines. "He's sweet and caring and sexy as hell."

"Honey, he's a man," you scoff. "And you have a nice ass. You know he only wants one thing."

"Well, he can have my heart and my ass."

You roll your eyes but then you both erupt in laughter.

You met Nanami at work. You're both translators, but she translates to Japanese while you translate to English. You both ended up working together on a project, translating for a business deal with executives that spoke multiple different languages, and guys have been inseparable ever since.

"I'm gonna go home and be a couch potato, I don't want to be a functioning human today," you say as you head outside, feeling the warm summer air wash over you

"Yeah me too. I'm not sure why our boss has to be such a dickhead. I'm going to sit on my ass for 5 hours straight eating ice cream.”

“This is why we're soulmates," you chuckle as she wraps you into a hug.

"[Y/N], text me!" Nanami shouts as she heads the opposite direction. "I miss your dumbass already!"

You give her a finger heart and also flip her off.

Ah, yes. The perfect pair, you think to yourself.

You just finished a hectic week at work, so you're taking your time heading back home, de-stressing from all the craziness that has happened the last few days. You crave your couch but you also love moseying around the city you call home.

You live in a pretty nice area of Seoul, and alhough your job is very demanding, it also pays you very well. You're able to afford a pretty luxurious apartment and you feel safe in your neighborhood. The area is so safe that you even occasionally come across kpop idols or kdrama stars.

After about 30 minutes of roaming around, you finally make it back to your building. You walk over to the elevator and scan your ID badge, selecting the 8th floor. You have to be a resident to use the elevators in your building. Those without ID badges can only access the first and second floors, which consist of the lobby, a mini convenience store, and some restaurants.

After stepping out of the elevators, you take a left and walk to your apartment door which is the furthest one on the end. It's annoying to carry groceries to the end of the hall, but you enjoy having the quietness that a corner apartment brings you.

You key in your passcode and open the door which immediately brings you into your kitchen, then you slip your shoes off and set your purse onto the island. The kitchen is an open concept, as it leads straight into the living room. You purposely chose an apartment that didn't have many walls because you aren't a big fan of closed spaces; it makes you feel claustrophobic.

You grab a sparkling water from your fridge and beeline it for the couch in the next room, plopping yourself down onto the cushions and stuffing your face into your Chimmy pillow.

"Ah, this is my happy place," you exhale as you start scrolling through your movie watch list.

You're very content with your life currently. It was tough adjusting to a new country and moving thousands of miles away from your family, but it's been a rewarding experience. You of course had a hard time fitting in at the beginning since South Korea is very homogeneous, but it had been your dream to live here ever since your sophomore year of high school.

You’d always been fascinated by Korean culture and found the language to be very beautiful. After years of begging your parents to take you to visit, they eventually caved when you were 16. It was the best two weeks of your life, and you ended up studying Korean in high school before going on to college to earn your degree.

It didn't take long for you to get a visa sponsorship and a job offer. 6 months after graduation you were packed and on a plane to Seoul.

You were not blinded by Korean dramas though. South Korea is not all sunshine and rainbows. You would have to face discrimination and inequality there, just like many other parts of the world, but you wanted to go for it anyway.

Now here you are, 2 years later, with a nice apartment, a decent job (even though your supervisor is kind of an ass), and a good group of friends. The only thing you are missing is romance, but you aren't in too much of a hurry on that.

After browsing through your options for a few minutes, you turn on Crazy, Stupid Love, your favorite comfort movie, and slowly doze off into a deep slumber.

About two hours later, you're woken up by a plethora of voices coming from outside. Eyelids half open and groggy, you make your way to the sliding glass doors that open up to the balcony. You peak over and see a crowd, consisting mostly of women, with signs a couple blocks from your building.

I wonder if there's some sort of event going on today.

You defide to fix up your hair and put on your shoes to go be the nosy bitch that you are.

It's pretty common for idols to have fan meets near your neighborhood, though it's usually smaller or newer groups. But one time you saw IU and almost shit your pants.

You head down the hall and down the elevator, making it through the lobby and stepping outside. You can hear the cheers but the crowd is on the other side of the building entrance.

Tiptoeing around your building, you try to see what, or who, could be today's main attraction. You make it about a block and a half before you hear, "OPPA, PLEASE COME BACK, LET ME LOVE YOU!!" followed by hundreds of squeals.

Your eyes turn to the alley on the right and find a tall figure sprinting for his damn life, running from the crowd of hungry females. You can't see who it is, as he's in all black sweats with his hoodie up, and he also has on large sunglasses and a mask.

Oh shit. Let me save this poor trainee's life or he'll get devoured before he can even debut.

"Yah!" you yell and the sprinting figure looks up to see you pointing to your right, encouraging him to follow you. You take off towards your building and look back to see him making a hard left as he turns the corner towards you.

The both of you take off in a sprint for your building. You grab his arm and pull him with you into your apartment lobby through the back exit that not many people know of, and you quickly pull out your badge and yank him into the elevator.

You press the 8th floor as you guys are huffing and wheezing, completely out of breath.

"Jesus Christ," you exhale in English, knowing he probably can't understand you. "Bitches really go crazy for that kpop dick," you laugh as you lean back against the elevator side rail.

You think you hear a snort but you can't tell between the gasps for air.

The man remains quiet, just breathing heavily with his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath. You finally reach the 8th floor and pull him into the hallway with you.

"Don't worry," you say in Korean, which makes the gentleman's eyebrows raise up. You're pretty used to the locals getting surprised by your fluency. "You have to have a badge to access this floor, they can't get to you here. But it's probably safest to hang out at my apartment for a little bit until the crowd disappears."

He nods and follows you to the end of the hall.

Actually, I'm a single female, you think. Should I be bringing a random man into my apartment? You eye him carefully.

Damn this motherfucker is HUGE.

He looks like he's around 6 feet tall with broad shoulders and long legs, but even without all his large features, there's something about his mere presence that makes him seem huge and intimidating.

You're used to many Korean men either being around your height or sometimes shorter. Not that there aren't any tall guys around, but there are more guys under 5'8" than there are taller.

Whatever. He's either famous or trying to get famous so he probably won't risk his reputation. This hallway has cameras.

You make sure to cover your passcode before entering and you let him walk through first so you can lock the door behind you.

"Oh man that was a close one," you chuckle as you start to turn around. "I don't know if you're new to this but you have to be carefu-"

You almost choke as the man removes his glasses and mask. It's like all the air has escaped your lungs — your eyes practically popping out of your head.

"What the fuck?" you whisper.

The man reaches his hand out for a handshake.

"Hi, thanks so much for saving me back there. I'm Kim Namjoon."

It disappeared right after reaching over half a million reads :')

If you've ever read SWM on Wattpad, you may notice I've made some improvements to my sentences (structure, grammar, spelling, etc) but nothing in the storyline has changed

Please like/ comment/ share so I can get a good understanding of how this platform works!
