Chapter 1
Oakley POV
I tie my ash brown hair in a neat pony tail before grabbing my weapons and heading out the door. My black clothing hugs me tightly, as it always does, and my boots make a loud stomping noise and I walk down the hallway towards Mr. Becket’s office. I readjust my uniform before entering his office and taking a seat in one of the empty seats in front of his desk. I wait a few minutes, before the door opens and I get to my feet to greet Mr. Becket. Instead of meeting Mr. Becket’s eyes, I’m met with the eyes of my boyfriend, Jacob. A smile graces my face, and he grins at me smugly. “What are you doing here?” I ask, my heart leaping already knowing the answer.
“I’m going on mission with you, finally.” He struts over to me and gently places a small kiss on my nose before taking a seat in the empty chair. I sit myself back down again and turn my body to face his.
“What’s the information we have on the mission?”
“Uh, uh, just because I’m more experianced than you doesn’t mean that I have to tell you anything.”
“Jacob, don’t be mean. I want to know the mission before Mr. Becket comes in and takes a thousand years to explain it.”
“A thousand years hm?” Mr. Becket jokes. Jacob bursts out laughing, shaking his head at his uncle.
“I am so sorry Mr. Becket,”
“All is forgiven Oakley, you have no need to worry. I’ll make this as quick as possible as this mission is vastly important and has the potential to save all of humanity.” My eyes widen a bit and I sit back into my seat to gather as much information as I possibly can.
“You two must travel to California and collect a young girl by the name of Mabel Green. She is the worlds best shot of making sure those monsters are gone for good.”
“Why?” Jacob asks.
“She’s a sorcerer. Long ago I would never have believed such nonsense, but now with monsters roaming the earth- this is our best chance. But you must return her before the new year. Or else her powers shall be too powerful to control and it will take us years to be able to access them again. You have 2 months, good luck. You two might be the best hope we have to save the world.” Jacob and I nod our heads before getting up and walking out of the room. Only then do I let out the breath I didn’t even know I was holding.
“Jesus. I’m terrified. The fate of the entire world is on our shoulders.” I mumble, as Jacob wraps an arm around my shoulders and begins guiding me towards the garage.
“I know darling, but it will be fine. You have me, and I have you.” I nod my head, but I’m still trembling a little bit. Jacob gives my shoulder a soft rub before kissing my temple. “I promise to make sure you don’t get hurt,”
“You don’t have to do that! I can take care if myself.” He smiles kindly at me, opening the door to the garage.
“I know you can, but as your partner I would still like to protect you and make sure you don’t get hurt. ” I smile at him, a blush rising to my face.
“Thank you,” I whisper.
The car drive to the airport is long and silent, but its a nice kind of silent. I spend most of the time staring out the window as Jacob slowly traces his thumb around my hand. It’s nice. Once we arrive at the airport, we hurry to board the plane with none of our luggage- we don’t really need it. We find our plane, the one marked as “MONSTER HUNTERS” in big bold letters, and climb aboard. There are 4 other agents already in their seats and Jacob leads me to the back of the plane where our two empty seats await us. The chairs are comfy as per usual, and Jacob gets the window seat. After the plane takes off, I lean my head on Jacob’s shoulder and slowly drift off into a peaceful sleep.
