Meeting

It was a beautiful and electrifying morning of November 8 and eight long years since Umair and Shafak had seen each other. These eight long rather brutal years seemed like a lifetime of decades .

As Umair left his hometown to meet up with her, he had the same excitement that he felt back in the university days. He drove as fast as he could as if miles would shrink or if she would fly over to sit right besides him and ask "kaisay ho." ( how are you?)

They planned to meet up with each other in a restaurant. As Umair entered he glanced around and there she was, already waiting for him with all her charms and graceful smile, certainly it was a priceless day for them.

Shafk waved at Umair and welcomed him with a warm hearty smile. There was a sparkle in her eyes when she looked at him as if saying a thousand words. This gesture was enough for him to skip a beat. It was something that Umair owed her.

They started with a small talk and little gossip. They talked about so many things as if they were trying to catch and cover every detail of their last long lost eight years .

It was as if they were sharing all the burdens they had on their shoulders while acting and playing their part in this world . No matter what they talked , one thing was common and continuous, their eyes looked deep into each other as if they were trying to read not only the eyes but hearts and souls, hearts that still skip the beat and souls with profound magical moments while having each other around.

Although everything around them just seemed ordinary and normal as it could be, but there was something extraordinary that day n that was feelings, hopes and excitement they had shared together, it was indeed special. It’s an amazing thing of this world, ordinary and extra ordinary are driven side by side. Ordinary for many but extraordinary for a few.

Shafak told him how upset she had been when she wasn’t invited to his marriage ceremony. Deep down Umair realised his mistake and knew she had cried a lot for not being called to the ceremony but for the existence of marriage itself. Just the same way he cried for her on her wedding as if something really precious and rare had been snatched away from him but he was helpless.

However, he acted as if he believed every word of what she said and pretended to believe that she remained upset for many days just for invitation. For a while she remained silent but later spoke, “those were best days of my life.”

Shafak told Umair how she adored him and all his gestures and he told her

“ You had been very special to me how could I have not done all those things for you. Seeing you was heaven to my eyes. You were the one who was my world and my world was snatched away right infront of me.”
