1. illusions
golden, viscous honey
melted from her iris,
plump lips smeared with a cherry.
her caramel-dipped skin glowed under the midnight moon
with a broken heart drenched
in tequila and whisky.
her eyes surged
with the reality of this world
as she stood there,
listening to the waves crashing vigorously against the rocks below her feet.
she was tired of the depraved
and needed sleep.
with a meld of liquor
and blood in her veins,
she contemplated leaping into the sea.
rage urged her
so it inevitably pushed her
violently into the deep, dark blue.
her body clashed with the ocean,
the water imprisoning her.
her inner demons fled,
entering the sea creatures.
she searched with her arms
and legs but she could find no purchase,
for all she knew
she was propelling herself further down into despair.
cold water filled her lungs
she was dying,
unraveling herself from her.
suddenly, the claws of darkness
covered her eyes,
and life had nothing to do with her.
death wasn’t her choice
she wanted escape
and her escape,
was an illusion of death.
