Chapter One
I'm not the kind to judge people, or say things that are wrong, I'm not saying that I am right...just that I have something to say. A lot of things happened to me when I finally saw the world through a different lens, I grew up, learned that I cant live up to the expectations of others, thats just the way it is.
I cant see anything, evrything is dark and hollow to the point where I feel like I'm in the nothing. The nothing is the thing I call when I disappear in my head, I get too bored and then BAM im somewhere else.
"Hey, wake up. It's 12:30 in the afternoon." She shakes my back and my blanket ruffles. I groan and open my eyes, its bright so I squint a bit.
"I know that school doesnt start til next week, but i got something in the mail earlier I thought you'd like!" My mother, her voice has always been soft and sweet, she could never do harm, not even to a fly. "It's a sleepover at the school, it starts at six O'Clock." I perk up with my eyes wide awake.
"Sleepover? At the school?" Its confusing because sleepovers usually happen at a friends house during a party or something. She smiles at me and gets off my bed, "Yep! You want to go or not?"
Withhout a second thought the words leave my mouth, "When are we leaving?"
Her voice is louder this time, "I already said that it starts at six, but we can leave at four or five!"
"All by myself?" I dont usually leave the house and I dont have that many friends either way. Its cold in my room, the vent is almost always covered by some crap on my floor and I shiver.
"Oh and put some sweats on...it's chilly in here!" I watch as my mother leaves my room with me still on the bed covered in a scruffy comforter.
Its almost two o'clock and I've been in my room for about 2 hours already so i head into the dining room. My dad is sitting at the table on his conputer doing work, You can have some food if you want, I went to the store earlier while you were asleep." He points toward the fridge.
I open the fridge and look inside, "What did you get?"
My mother walks in and kisses him on the forehead and turns to me, "Didn't you get that one appetizer from the market over by the store?"
I dig through the shelves and find a plastic container full of what looks like pasta, "Did you get chicken alfredo?" The box is cold and the noodles inside the box are hard. I put the pasta into the microwave and watch it spin on the glass dish, "Hey mom!"
"Yeah?"
"Did you ever go to this sleepover thing?" Im still staring at the bowl in the microwave, "or"---my mom interupts me, "Oh no, I graduated a couple years before they established that thing. But your Aunt Catherine went. We're seven years apart." She laughs. The microwave beeps and I open the door to the microwave
Its about five PM and I'm waiting by the door, the screen door opens and my brother walks in, "Where are you going? It's bot like you have any friends!" He smirks, Nicky's always been mean to me but im bigger and three years older so I win, "Shut up you little brat, and I do have friends...they just live somewhere else." I dont have friends, I did for a while, but I don't anymore because I can't keep 'em.
Our mom walks up to our chit-chatting and crosses her arms, "Your sisters going to school..." He looks at her and back at me, "Summer School ended a month ago?"
She loads her bag with car keys and the invite, " It's for a sleepover Nicky, she'll be there for a week."
His eyebrows lower and form this weird frowning face that doesn't look like a frown at all, "What! Like your gonna live in the school?"
"For a week." I say glaring at him.
"Why doesnt my school do that?" His voice is high and sqeaky like a chipmunk.
"Probably because you're a brat---" Our mother stops us before we get into a whole arguement over nothing.
"Kate! The school probably doesn't have basic needs for safety and hygeine, like showers for example." She sighs, but it sounds like a groan, shes mad at us but you could barely tell. Nicky sticks his tounge at me with our mom not looking.
"I was at Tre's, we had the best time!" He rolls his eyes like I do, he's mocking me.
I nod my head to the side a little and lift my left eyebrow in annoyance, "Good for you I guess." My mother drags me outside and into the car before anything else could happen. We drive along the small road that leads to the entrance of the school.
