Prologue

No.

I sat in my table in the student council room, surrounded by papers as I type on my laptop, working on a project for my class.

I was completely focused on my work when suddenly, the door burst open and a man entered the room. My eyes widened in surprise as I recognized him.

Adam.

Why was he here? Why is my ex and brother's best friend in here?

"What are you doing here?" I asked, in my sharp voice. "Didn't I tell you not to see me again?" I tried to push him away, but I stumbled. With his support, I was able to stand, but I immediately pushed his hand away from me.

"Rikisha, there's something I need to tell you," he said, his voice serious. "Please just listen."

I hesitated, taken aback by the sudden intensity of his words. "What is it?" I asked, carefully monitoring his distance from me.

"It's about your brother," he paused, his eyes avoiding mine. "He... he... is dead."

I felt like the world stopped turning. "What do you mean he's dead? He was just on a video call with me last night," I demanded, my voice shaking.

"I'm sorry," he said, his voice filled with remorse.

I broke down in tears, but suddenly I felt a sharp pain near my arm. I looked down and saw that Adam was holding my pulse, with my gloves removed.

"What are you doing?" I asked, my voice filled with fear.

Before I could react, the pain became intense and everything went black.
