Prologue

Prologue:

“One of these days it will be time to finally clean up the mess that was started when we put the Humans with the supernaturals.” The raven haired female ran a hand through her hair before sighing. Acca looked over at her other half and offered a small smile. The words she just spoke caused her a great pain in her chest. The wolves were her children, but they just caused the humans too much pain.

“Acca, dear,” the Oldest Goddess had a pained smile on her face. Acca rummaged through her thoughts trying to remember what she was the goddess of. She remembered the name as the woman patted her cheek, she was Wylonia, the Goddess of Vampyres. “We cannot kill off all of our children.”

A lot of other rumblings ran through their meeting. Acca stood up and slammed her hand down on the table. “SILENCE!” She waits a couple moments before looking at her other half. The look on his face caused her great pain. “I have an idea. I will sever my mating bond so that I may go down and see if the children are worth the trouble, then, maybe, we will give them a second chance to do what they were made to do. To keep peace between the humans. ” Gabri sighed next to Acca. The words took a toll on him. It was clearly written over his face and she gave him a pained look before shrugging. She couldn’t show the pain she was going through in front of all the other deities.

“If they are worth our time and love, then you will still send the worst down there. They must know we still exist and we are still judging them for their crimes, just like we will greet them with paradise. Does this sit well with everyone?” She raised her eyebrows waiting for someone to decline her idea, instead it was Gabri that spoke up.

“If you become a regular wolf, you cannot have your memories of this quite so soon. It would drive you mad. Being in a human body.” Acca nodded along as he spoke.

“Well, then, in that case, Wylonia, I will need your help. In two weeks time, you will need to wipe my memory and find me a suitable host. I expect false memories to be placed and such, but find a way to unlock the memories. You can ask Gabri for help.”

Acca rang the bell to have the food be served. Five Nymphs came in, each pushing a cart with different selections of food on them. A strawberry blonde Nymph stood tall and looked Acca in the eyes. The Nymph bowed so deeply her nose almost touched the floor, “Your dinner, Luna.”

Acca waved them off while motioning for the other deities to eat all in one fluid movement. She sat at the head of the table thinking. Acca only had two weeks to prepare for the test. She looked at Gabri and gave a pained smile, they were bond mates. Gabri’s dad gave each of them true mates, but Gabri’s mate died and Acca has yet to find hers. Acca searched for years but never knew where he was, so the two lonely deities decided they would mate.

Acca looked away from Gabri and turned to Wylonia. The vampyre goddess wore her age with pride, her slivering hair started to fall into place. She was only four million years old and looked well for her age. Acca smiled before she looked back down at her hands. Every single one of them became her family when her mother was caught while she was down on earth.

“It’s okay Acca.” Her Uncle Arte walked up to her and forced her to stand. He was the one that decided the supernaturals needed Humans to look after. Acca sighed before offering a small, yet pained smile, but it fell the moment it reached her face. “Your mother would be proud of you.” With those seven words, Uncle Arte broke her heart and she nodded before wiping her eyes. Acca had only been the leader of the council for four thousand years. Acca had taken over when her mother died, it was still very hard to think about her mother and whether or not the fallen Goddess would be proud of what her daughter was doing.

“Uncle Arte, where do we go when we die? Or do we just… fade?” She sniffled before her colorless eyes met her uncle’s golden ones. He just kind of shrugged which then caused her to scowl. “That did not really answer my question…” she says, yet Uncle Arte seems to pay no attention to her. Instead it made the emptiness inside of her grow, the hope of her mother having peace was part of what kept Acca going. That comment took away most of the hope that she had left, so instead of facing it, she turned and watched the rest of the people in the dining hall. Acca could hear quiet footsteps echoing off to her left as her uncle took the hint and let her be.

Acca waited for the rest of her comrades to get their food before dismissing their meeting. “That was everything that I have to say at this time. I hope that you all have a pleasant meal.” As soon as the words left her mouth, quiet conversations erupted all around her. She turned to Wylonia asking, “how did I get the mantle of being leader? You used to be the leader of these things.” She brushed a stray hair from her face before slightly teasing the only grandmother she had known.

“Well, darling,” her eyes were hauntingly familiar with the lack of color, “your eyes tell the story. I just want to retire and look after my children down on Earth. The struggle of juggling both will keep you on your toes until you get your ma-” Wylonia was cut off by a dark look from Gabri. “Sorry, I know that she already has you but, for some reason, you two do not share your responsibilities. You each do your own thing and when all is said and done, then you spend time together. That is not how this is supposed to work.. The only reason my mate is not here helping me is he is on Earth already dealing with something that we do not need to get into at this time.” Wylonia was obviously not happy with the whole situation.

“I know, that was something that I was going to bring up when I re-marked her,” Gabri said, as he helped the Nymphs clean up around Acca’s and his area. “Either we are mates or we are not, but at this time the only thing we are doing is acting like separate units instead of a team.” Acca was kind of irritated by the interruption, but figured she should probably listen to what her mate has to say. “But now, I guess I really don’t have to bring that up. Either she will find the mate my father assigned her or I will be her back up. If she chooses me, then so be it. Things will change, but we will cross that bridge when we come to it.”

When Gabri had brought up re-marking her, Acca lifted her hand up to the nape of her neck and frowned. It was about time for him to renew the bond that they had made together. Gabri and Acca had matching intertwining pawprints, something they were born with, which meant that they were allowed to be together, even without being mates.

Acca pushed the thought from her mind and looked at her grandmother. “So, I get the option of either my true mate or to take back the love of my life?” Wylonia could hear the disappointment in Acca’s voice. “If my true mate is what we need, then I will bring him back here, however if not, then I hope we will be able to go back to what we had.” She paused and looked at Gabri. The word ‘hope,’ echoed in her mind before she rubbed her hand across her face. This meeting was getting to her and she needed to rest before her mission. “Alright, everyone except Gabri and Wylonia is dismissed.” She sat back down after her announcement. This was going to be an extremely long mission.

“Gabri, I love you, I hope you know this. You will always be the one that my wolf and I decided would be our mate. I sincerely hope that we can go back to being us but, I guess for now, we both have sacrifices we have to make.” Acca paused before smiling sadly at Gabri and her grandmother. “You could both come with me, make sure nothing bad happens. Grandma, you could be our mother figure, and Gabri… the brother?” Acca let out a small chuckle when she said this, but she was completely serious. “And while you are down there with me, you could see if you could find your second chance mate, Gabri.”

Gabri sulked back in his chair after hearing Acca’s words. “I was not given a second chance, I am sorry. I cannot accompany you. It would hurt too badly for me to see you with another man, if that is what you decide to choose. I really am sorry.” He paused to look at Wylonia. “I am leaving, you must do this without me. I will send you the information you need through the link Acca will make. I love you Acca, and because of this, I am so very sorry.” Gabri freezes in his seat as his face loses all emotion and becomes dark and cold, his eyes filled with pain and longing, but all Acca could focus on was the words he began to speak. “I, Gabri Moroak, son of Elijah Moroak, reject and sever the bond that Acca Longe and I have formed between us.” With no other words, Acca watched the love of her life disappear without a second glance.

Falling to her knees, Acca cries out for Gabri to come back. Whimpers of pain filled the air around her and her grandmother. Broken hearted, Acca wraps her cloak around herself, trying to keep herself from falling apart, memories of her and Gabri kept flashing through her mind. The first time they kissed, their first date, the first time they discovered their matching pawprints. Each was a deeper cut in her soul, because she was the reason this was happening. The Goddess was putting her children first and now she lost the one thing that kept her together through everything. Just the thought of it all was too much and sadness overtook over her body as she curled up unable to move.

“Gabri...Please...I need you.”
