Chapter 1

Pest not controlled

Katie was an inventor. She was always creating things out of the stuff that she found. She lived in a weatherboard home that was falling apart, it was next to a huge airport. Whenever a plane launched, the whole house shook. One day her parents went on a business trip. Her big brother was to look after her for the weekend.

Katie sat in her room. She was so bored. She could hear her big brother gabbing away with his friends. When suddenly, she saw a daddy long legs. She screamed in terror. She began running around the room like a headless chicken. She Screamed for her brother. Her brother stomped up the stairs. “ What do you want?” he said. “ s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-spider” she gasped. Her brother looked up and saw the spider. She had expected him to scream and jump out the window. He just stared up at it. He slowly pulled off his shoe and began smacking the spider mercilessly. She thought there must be some way to get rid of insects that don’t hurt them. IDEA. She sent her brother out of her room and began brainstorming. First, she came up with a bad smell so bad that when she was testing it, the flowers in her room were dead even though she had previously watered them.

Katie quickly put the lid back on the jar and opened all the doors in her room.

Meanwhile, in France.

“Sacre bleu! what is that smell?”, A Frenchman remarked, “et is so overpowering!”, The Frenchman continued

In Australia,

“phew, glad that smell is gone. Any longer, I would’ve died of suffocation!” she said. All day she continued thinking, pondering and scrunching up paper. When finally, the plans were devised. Nervously, she approached her friends. Stumbling on her own feet. The last time she had come up with an idea like this, it hadn’t gone down well. It ended up with them getting chased by Bruce Magonagals dog.

“Hey guys”, she said. They all did a little wave. “So last night, I came up with an idea,” she said. The look on her friends’ faces looked like they disagreed with her so far.

“ You know, bugs. We think they’re all disgusting and yucky. When we kill them, I think it’s a bit cruel,” she said. “So I came up with some ideas to kill them, not in a cruel way”, she said, “their bugs”, Boris said. “I overheard a conversation with my mum talking with my neighbour about the bug problem”, Christopher said. “She said that she would pay big bucks for someone to get rid of them”, he continued. They were all agreeing with it so far. “I want you guys to help me to test them out in my own house. So if there is damage, I’ll take full responsibility,” she said. Making hand movements to show an explosion.

“So, what day should we do it?” Jai said, making an inquiry.

“Tuesday”, Christopher said. They all nodded at each other.

Tuesday 8/9/22

Katie was busy preparing everything. Before her parents left, she heard her brother complaining to her parents about seeing a nest. First, Christopher arrived, then Boris and lucky last, Jai. “Okay, everyone. I would like for you to choose a weapon from my arsenal”, she said. Everyone picked a weapon. “Jai Bathroom Boris, My brother’s room Christopher you get the dining room Me kitchen”, Katie said. Everyone parted ways. Each person goes a different way.

The bathroom

Jai anxiously stepped into the bathroom. Clutching her weapon. She was pretty sure it was just a modified nerf gun. Well, it looked like one. Jai shut the door behind her, so no creepy crawlies escape. Curiously Jai began poking around in the cupboards. In the cupboards, she found some toothpaste (hygiene is always essential, so always brush your teeth)She also found some floss. The most exciting thing he found was some adult diapers. On the diapers, it was labelled Josh. Huh, I wonder who Josh is, Jai thought. She had nearly finished clearing the cabinets when he found a giant, huge, plump cockroach. “Oh, CrAp” yelled Jai. She stumbled back. The roach jumped at him.

Jai ducked it and landed on the wall. He pulled out his weapon. It looked almost like a Deagle. Jai pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. She pulled it again and still nothing happened. How stupid! Katie gave us these weapons and didn’t even explain how to use them. She dropped the dart toy on the floor. She picked up a mirror and began attempting to whack the thing. Failing every time. her necklace slid off and fell into the toilet. Immediately she forgot about the cockroach. Giving it enough time to escape.

Jai just stared at the necklace in the toilet. She had to make a huge decision. Get it out, or leave it. She chooses to leave it. She flushes the toilet. The toilet water starts rising up. It went over the brim. “Well, at least I won’t get dehydrated”, Jai jokes. She slowly slipped out the door. Now it was Katie’s problem.

Brothers room

Boris slowly opened the door to Josh’s room. Slowly he closed the door. He could hear some mumbling from the other side of the room. Boris’s head swivelled towards the direction. He could make out a humanoid shape lying in a bed. It was Josh. Boris was careful not to make too much noise.

Boris began inspecting the room. He saw a mouse hiding in the bookshelf. “Gotcha”, Boris whispered. He slowly pulled out his weapon. Did it look like a type of firecracker? Anyway, Boris threw it and made a large BOOM. Smoke unravelled in the room. The mouse was still standing. It had a freaking FORCE FIELD. It leapt off the bookshelf and onto the floor. Boris just started at the thing slackjawed. It then pulled out a ray gun and vaporised Boris’s weapon. Boris began begging for mercy. The mouse deliberately shot the gun and missed. Boris ran out of the room screaming in terror.

Dining room

Christopher entered the room. The dining room didn’t look like it was in its best shape. It had a huge crack in the wall. A likely place for critters to hide in. His weapon looked like a spear. The spearhead was made of foam. Christopher began looking everywhere for prey. He even looked in the dishwasher. He poked his head inside the washer. Wash activated. A voice rang out. Unfortunately, Christopher didn’t hear it. Water sprayed everywhere. Soap got in Christopher’s mouth, ears, and even his nostrils. He quickly pulled his head out and began screaming in pain as soap suds got in his eyes.

He looked for a wash basin. He turned the tap. Ouch! Too hot. He turned it down. The soap suds washed out of his eyes. He looked up. It was a spider. “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH”, He screamed. He pulled out his weapon. He began trying to hit the spider. He missed every time. He made a huge hole in the wall. Chris didn’t even care. Termites began pouring out of the wall. He turned on the oven by accident and continued running. Chris was cornered. He saluted and jumped out the window. He ran all the way to IGA. He bought a cold drink and gulped it down because all the screaming was rough on his throat. He then began screaming. He can be seen currently screaming his head off in a bullet train in Tokyo, surrounded by puzzled foreigners.

Da Kitchen

Katie clutched her weapon so tightly that she could hear the metal creaking. She loosened her grip. The kitchen was the hotspot for critter activity. She pulled out her weapon. She pulled out her homemade grenade. It was the deadliest weapon in her arsenal. She pulled the pin and lobbed it. It exploded; she could hear the bugs slowly dying. Wait, that’s not supposed to happen! They’re supposed to go to sleep. Katie was a murderer. She began crying. Sadly, she

called out to her friends, and everyone but Christopher came. “Now, where could that rascal be?” Katie said, hands on her hips. Her friends didn’t answer, they just stared straight forward. Everyone did look very shocked. Katie sighed and slapped her head. “ Ok, we’re going to take 10 minutes off.

10 minutes later…

Everyone prepared to enter the Garage. They all slowly approached the garage door. “ On 10, 1, 2, 3- okay, this is taking too long. 10!” Katie said.

They all lurched for the door, and they all bumped heads. “Maybe one person should open the door”, suggested Boris. They all nodded. Jai reached into his pocket and pulled out some sticks. “Let’s draw sticks, ″ said Jai. Everyone drew a stick. Boris had the longest stick until it broke.

“Are you serious?” Boris groaned. He reluctantly approached the door. Boris twisted the door. It creaked as it opened. A colossal cockroach jumped out at Boris. It was on his face. Quickly Jai dashed to the kitchen to fetch some bug repellent. She saw a fire quickly spreading in the kitchen. “FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE” she yelled.

When everyone heard the word ‘FIRE’, everyone rushed out, including Josh. He just woke up. Everybody was standing outside watching the house burn. The bad thing was that Katie’s parents didn’t have any Insurance as they couldn’t afford it. When suddenly, something fell out of the sky. It hit the house, and the house exploded. Katie didn’t look shocked. Her parents arrived at a burning home. They just stared at it slack jawed. It’s been a while since the incident. Turns out the government gave them a completely new house. The friends had not spoken about the incident since. Was all this a coincidence, or was this Katie’s plan all along?

The end
