Chapter 1

Rides home. Ceaseless conversations. Shared Food.

Mutual But Unsaid Love.

There is an electrifying bliss in the air when we are together, it is like we are transported to a magical realm where the chaos of the real world is far-fetched. It is like everything else is nothing but an illusion. The only beings that exist are him and me. He knows it too, I hope.

We let our actions speak for us. Never a word said, afraid that it might break the magic forever. We have each other and that should suffice. We spend the majority of our days together. We work together. We eat together. We go home together.

“Speak up,” I urged in my head.

“No, you first.” he answered in silence.

I want our relationship to change.

Take it a notch higher.

But…

He’s not giving hints. Or taking mine.

He’s not talking about it. Not asking questions.

Is he happy with the way things are?

I realized I am not.

What would I do? Give in? Admit my feelings and risk what we have now?

I can’t. I won’t.

“I like you,” he blurted out.

Silence prevails over. The echoes of the pin drop could be heard even a mile away. Conversation in the nearby office cubicle fills in the sudden awkwardness, the people unaware of what is going on between us.

A minute stretches like an eternity. He fiddles with his fork, staring at his food. But I know he is taking peeks at me as he tries to decipher my thoughts on his revelation.

Just when I thought I couldn’t take it anymore and he probably would too, he repeated,

“I like you for a long time, but don’t worry if…”

“I like you too,” I interrupted.

Just like that, it is official for us the way we wanted it.
