Chapter 1: The Meeting
It was a hot summer. It was so hard to move as the air was thick and felt uncomfortable. It was suffocating. Hazel came out of the bar. She winced as she was greeted with the aroma of tobacco and alcohol that was being blown away by the wind. Even at night, the air was still sticky and uncomfortable. It was a typical hot season, but she had never gotten used to it.
She covered her stomach and took several steps forward until she stopped under the sycamore tree by the side of the road.
She didn’t notice that she had drunk a lot in that private room. Her whole surroundings were turning around. She wanted to throw up. Tonight, she had an appointment with Tim Miller, a famous director in the entertainment industry. It could be an opportunity for her so she couldn’t do anything silly. Since Andrew Harris’ death, the Moon Stone pack was on the brink of dissolution. Andrew was Hazel’s mate. When he died, she took over the responsibilities of being an Alpha. She did her best to keep the pack together.
The Harris Company, which was owned by Andrew, had supported the pack financially. But along with his death, financial challenges hit the company, which threatened the Moon Stone pack’s existence.
In order to keep the pack alive, Hazel alone solicited investments everywhere and let Andrew’s sister, the good-looking Chloe Harris, enter the entertainment industry to earn money.
It wasn’t until she looked for the stomach medicine she was carrying that Hazel noticed that her mobile phone had been vibrating and didn’t know how long it had been ringing. She picked it up and saw that it was from a strange number. Thinking that it might be a call from the official partner, she cleared her throat and answered, “Hello.”
“Ms. Anderson?” The voice from the other line was polite.
“Yes?” Hazel responded politely and leaned against the tree pole as she held her stomach.
“Miss Harris is here with me. Is it possible for you to come here?”
At the other end, Chloe’s soft and sticky voice came just as she was drunk and mumbled something vaguely. The man went quiet for a moment, presumably to appease her. After a few seconds, he lowered his voice and spoke again. “She has been messing around all night. I am distraught.”
Hazel understood immediately what she had to do. Chloe could not be trusted. She went to the office yesterday to ask Hazel for leave and said she would go home to sleep. Considering that she had been filming night dramas for several days, Hazel agreed as soon as her heart softened.
Unexpectedly, She had lied to her again! How could she do that?
Thinking of this sister-in-law, she felt powerless and helpless.
She didn’t know who was on the other end of the phone, but the meaning was obvious. Chloe was probably pestering someone again. This kind of thing had happened more than once already, but the girl never changed. Hazel twirled her eyebrows, and finally asked “Address, please.”
She knew that she had no choice but to come and pick her up despite how she was feeling.
Hazel also came out for social engagement last night.. She drank too much and didn’t dare to drive. There were many taxis at the entrance of the bar. One left, and the other immediately stopped in front of her.
She got into the taxis and told the address of her destination. Sure enough, the driver looked at her from the rearview mirror.
Hazel smiled back, “Do you think I look like a mistress?”
The driver immediately pulled up his lips. It seemed that he didn’t expect her to say that “You are really interesting, Miss.”
In fact, it was not his fault to guess in this way. Belair was the best building in L city. People who could live there were no ordinary dignitaries, but all famous celebrities. It was also a famous hiding place. The way Hazel was dressed at the moment was effortless to judge.
She felt a flicking pain in her head. She couldn’t believe that Chloe had let herself get drunk. Thinking of that place where Chloe was at the moment made her fall into deep thought. Who was she with? According to the man, it seemed that he was bothered by Chloe. He sounded like someone who was difficult to mess with.
The carriage was just broadcasting Chloe’s latest single. The young woman had an excellent voice.
She was sure that Chloe could make it on top with little training.
Hazel wanted to take care of her and turn her into a star.
That’s what she wanted, but Chloe needed to have her heart and mind in her career.
The young woman’s mind was occupied with falling in love. However, she kept on meeting the wrong people.
Hazel had a lot of things inside her head. She opened the car window so she could breathe fresh air.
Then, she decided to call Beta Owen.
Owen was still at the bar. He couldn’t help frowning when he heard about Chloe. “Ms. Anderson, I’ll just pick up Miss Harris. Mr. Miller is still waiting for you here.”
She shook her head as if the person was just in front of her.
“No, I will pick her up! Please explain it to Mr. Miller for me.”
Hazel put away her mobile phone, and then sighed.
The City was enchanting that night. But Hazel couldn’t enjoy the scenery in front of her.
She took a deep breath and took a nap. She was hoping it would make her feel a bit better.
She didn’t know for how long that was but she only opened her eyes when she felt that the taxi stopped.
They were already in front of Belair.
The lights were bright and the surroundings were quiet. There were trim green plants arranged on both sides of the path. The huge park seemed to be separated from the noise and boredom of the city. Even the air seemed to be much fresher than elsewhere.
Hazel straightened her slightly messy skirt and walked straight to the door.
How she wished she could stop to close her eyes and feel the cold breeze of the wind.
The gatekeeper asked as usual and let her in after listening to the address.
The house was hard to find. The area was too large.
She would take the whole night if she continued, so she asked the patrolling security to find the villa where Chloe was.
The person who opened the door for her was a middle-aged man. He looked honest. But there was a sharp gaze from him.
He looked up at Hazel from foot to head. Then, he nodded.
“Mr. Jackson is upstairs.”
Hazel had no idea who the man was. She had known a lot in L city, but she had no single idea who that was. When she heard the last name, her brain burst and her steps stopped.
On second thought, what a coincidence?
That person should dare not appear in public.
The middle-aged man was probably the housekeeper at the villa. Seeing her hesitation, he stretched out his hand and made a gesture of invitation, “Ms. Anderson, this way.”
Hazel tried to put aside her thoughts and calmed herself down. Something that she hadn’t remembered for years suddenly flashed in her mind. She followed the housekeeper and slowly climbed the revolving stairs.
She felt a bit strange.
Hazel suddenly in a panic. She couldn’t explain what she was feeling.
Finally, Hazel found Chloe in the room at the end of the corridor. She was lying on the bed alone and seemed to be asleep. Her body was intact, and her clothes were neatly dressed.
Hazel could not help sighed in relief. She couldn’t help but wonder what the purpose of the man was.
She looked around again and hoped to see anyone, but no one was there.
It was only the housekeeper standing behind her with a blank face. “Miss Harris has drunk more than what she could handle and Owen can’t be contacted, so I have to take the liberty to disturb you.”
Hazel naturally knew what Chloe was when she got drunk, so she nodded with an apologetic look to the man. “When she wakes up, I will ask her.”
Hazel reached out and patted Chloe on the face. Her tone was already a little cold. She wanted the woman to feel that she was not happy with what she had done. “Chole, wake up!”
Chloe opened her eyes but she just pouted her lips and went back to sleep. She didn’t even bother to look at her. Hazel sighed. She tried to wake her up again and helped her get up. . But her strength was not enough, Chloe was so heavy. She stumbled and fell on the floor.
Chloe opened her eyes as she realized that the voice was familiar to her. She was half-awake as she looked at the person in front of her. “Hazel?”
Hazel clasped her lips with a smile. “I will talk to you later,” she said in a very low voice just enough for the two of them to hear.
She was always protective of her friends. She would not let them get embarrassed in front of other people.
Hazel tried to pull the girl up again, and suddenly there was a steady sound of footsteps behind her. Then an arm was stretched out and then she heard a baritone voice from behind. “Let me help you.”
Hazel’s body stiffened. Her eyes darted on the man’s face.
It seemed that the world stood still.
Hazel suddenly became oblivious and only had her own heartbeat in her ear. The man’s eyes were deep and bright, with a faint amber light.
His breath was calm but sounded dangerous, and he had a faint smell of smoke.
“Luna Hazel, long time no see.”
She couldn’t be mistaken about that voice.
She didn’t even recognize the scum’s voice on the phone earlier!
When Chloe saw the man, she suddenly got up. “Christopher, Hazel will beat me to death!”
But the man didn’t bother to look at Chloe. His eyes were focused on Hazel.
Hazel was just looking at the man as if she was trying to study every feature of his face. After a couple of seconds, she then realized that he was the man she met before.
She hated the man. Suddenly, all the memories flashed in her mind. She clenched her fist as she wanted to kill him.
In just one shot.
But she didn’t expect him to appear in front of her. She was not ready for that encounter.
Though she knew that she was different from before. She was no longer the little girl. She was afraid that she wouldn’t be able to walk out of the room along with Chloe.
The man was calm and yet she knew that there was something behind his calm aura.
She had to stay calm and unaffected of his parents. Hazel knew she should smile. “Christopher, I couldn’t believe that you dared to come back.”
Christopher, who was the Alpha of Night Walker Pack and the enemy of Moon Stone pack, was also the one who killed Alpha Andrew.
Christopher looked at Hazel calmly while his deep facial features showed no emotion. Hazel thought he would say something, only to see him reached out and help Chloe up.
She hurried to pull her away from him and glared at him in disgust. “Don’t touch her!”
It was as if he was a virus that would infect others.
Christopher withdrew his hand and said quietly, “I’ll let the driver see you off.”
Hazel frowned. She didn’t understand what he was planning, so she simply said, “I don’t know what you want to do, but don’t touch the Harris family!”
Christopher kept looking at her coldly and did not speak. He had deep eyes, which were always beyond the understanding of others.
Hazel clenched her teeth and said clearly, “I’m not who I was before. This is not Italy. Don’t you dare test me.”
Christopher then replied, “I think you misunderstood me.”
The man was in white clothes and black pants, just like how he was in the past. It was clearly many years already, but he left no trace of aging in his body. He was even more handsome than he was at that time.
“It was Chloe who approached me. I didn’t know that she is related to you”
While he spoke, he looked at her intently. Seeing that she didn’t respond, he smiled slightly. “If I knew, I would have avoided her earlier. I also didn’t want to meet you, Luna Hazel.”
