Chapter 1
"But why hasn't he called me yet?" Amara asked anxiously to her best friend.
"He's probably in bed with his wife" Maria replied.
"How does that stop him from making one phone call?" Amara stood up and begin to walk back and forth in the room.
"Hmm... Usually, when people do what couples do, they tend not to make calls" Maria said.
"Are you trying to tell me they've been in bed all day?" Amara asked.
"Maria this is a married man" Maria snapped. "He has a wife"
"And a girlfriend too," Amara said angrily. "He has responsibilities for me too. It's been forty-eight hours already for God's sake"
"Maybe he has finally moved on" Maria sat close to the mirror and began to wipe the makeup from her face.
"You don't understand" Amara shook her head and sat on the bed.
"No, you don't understand" Maria turned to her. "You've been dating a married man for over a year. Did you think it'll last forever?"
"Okay but what if something happened to him?" Amara asked.
"Ohh, like him suddenly coming back to his senses?" Maria asked.
"Stop it!" Amara sprang to her feet. "You don't understand, Jack loves me"
"At this point, I can only hope that you come back to your senses" Maria stood up and left the room.
Throughout the night, Amara couldn't sleep. She kept on calling him, but there was no response. Early the next day, she stood up and got herself dressed.
"Where are you going this early?" Maria asked her.
"I'm going to her office" Amara replied.
"Whose office?" Maria asked.
"His wife's office" Amara replied. "I don't know where he stays but some time ago when I was in his car, he went to drop something at his wife's office"
"You were in his car when he went to drop something off for his wife?" Maria asked in disbelief.
"You know what? Just forget about this conversation" Maria picked up her bag and was about to leave the room when her phone started ringing. She brought the phone from her bag and her face beamed with a smile.
"Jack where have you been?" She asked. "What happened to you? Is everything okay?"
"Yes, I'm fine" he replied. Amara's mood changed. She became angry instantly.
"Then why haven't you been picking up my calls?" She asked angrily.
"My wife has been suspicious lately" he replied. "I became close to her to clear things off"
"But you should have at least called me," Amara said. "I've been worried"
"I'm so sorry," Jack said. "Are you free today?"
"Yes," Amara smiled. "What is it?"
"I would come to pick you up to make things up for you," Jack said.
"Ok, I'll be waiting. I love you" she smiled.
"I love you too," Jack said and ended the call. Amara launched herself on the bed with her face beaming with a smile.
"What's making you smile" Maria walked inside the room.
"It's about Jack" Amara replied.
"Ohh..... So you've finally decided to let him go" Maria smiled.
"No!" Amara snapped. "He called me and said I should wait for him because he wants to take me out"
"Amara!" Maria pouted. "You're not getting any younger. You should find a who would marry you before old age"
"Jack is my man," Amara said.
"He has a wife that loves him," Maria said.
"He also has a mistress that loves him too" Amara snapped. "We both love him"
"Well, that's not why I'm here" Maria rolled her eyes.
"Why are you here?" Amara asked.
"Lucy is here," Maria said and left. Amara stood up and followed her.
"Look who is here" Amara sat close to Lucy. They've been friends since childhood.
"Amara it's been a long since I last came here," Lucy said.
"How is our baby kicking?" Amara stared at the little bump.
"He's doing fine" Lucy smiled.
"You came from your house to see us, why didn't you call us to come to see you?" Amara asked.
"Amara I came here to talk about the issue with your mother," Lucy said. Amara rolled her eyes to avoid making contact with Lucy.
"Amara" Lucy held her hand.
"Stop it!" Amara yelled. "If my mother was the reason you came here then you better leave now"
"Amara!" Maria pouted.
"Your mother has been worried for you," Lucy said. "She wants you to get married"
"I'm in a relationship," Amara said.
"With a married man," Maria snapped.
"But I also don't want you to jump into marriage so you won't end up with the wrong man. As you can see I'm with the right man" Lucy began to show off her wedding ring.
"Lucy" Amara almost laughed. "What makes you think you're with the right man?"
"What do you mean?" Lucy looked at Amara with more seriousness.
"Lucy even pastors cheat on their wives so don't think your husband is the holiest in this world," Amara said.
"Amara!" Lucy sprang to her feet. "The fact that you can't get a man to wife you does not give you the right to insult my man in front of me or behind me because I won't take it"
"I didn't insult your husband" Amara chuckled. Lucy picked up her bag angrily and left the house.
"Amara, what have you done?" Maria asked. "Lucy please greet your husband for me"
"I was only advising her" Amara began to laugh. The door opened and Jack came inside.
"Are you ready?" Jack walked to Amara smiling.
"I'm always ready for you" Amara gave him a quick kiss and they both left the house.
Amara stood up and began to pace in the room. It's been three days since she last saw Jack. She was worried something bad might have happened to him.
"Amara, what's the matter with you?" Maria entered the room holding a piece of luggage.
"You're back" Amara gave her a fake smile.
"You haven't answered my question" Maria stopped her from carrying her luggage.
"It's about Jack," Amara said sadly. "I haven't heard from him since you left"
"Maybe he has decided to settle down with his wife," Maria said.
"I love him" Amara walked back to her seat. She thought back to the time they met.
After she got seven heartbreaks in half a year, she decided to go on a vacation to clear her head off. She entered the train with her luggage and began to look for an empty seat. While searching for an empty seat, she mistakenly stepped on a man's feet. They got into an argument and she later sat close to him because it was the only empty seat on the train.
Later that day when she was in the hotel, she found out that Jack lodged the room opposite hers. They got to know each other and found out he was a cool guy. After the vacation, they kept on seeing each other and Amara started to crush on him. She decided to confess her feelings for him.
"No, I can't date you" was his response. Amara felt so heartbreaking, she thought she wasn't a good match for him. Jack left and never called her again, she thought that was the end of them until one day. He called her and told her to meet him at the coffee shop.
"Amara I love you but I'm married," he said.
"You're married?" Amara asked in disbelief. She didn't think he was married. She only thought he was a single successful man. She don't want to lose him like the rest, she was in love with him.
"Yes," he replied. "I love you"
"I love you too," Amara said. "I don't care if you're married, I will be your girlfriend" since then they loved each other secretly.
"Amara you should let go of him while it's still early," Maria said.
"No" Amara shook her head. "He means everything to me"
"I'm afraid you'll regret this later," Maria said.
"I won't regret loving Jack. He's my life" Amara said. "I would go and meet his wife at her office and ask about his whereabouts"
"Amara!" Maria yelled.
"I can't let go of my man," Amara said. "He's a rich successful man"
"Amara don't be fooled, he got that money from his wife," Maria said.
"I don't care" Amara picked up her bag and left the house for his wife's company.
