Chapter 1
Everyone thinks that school is a safe place. Now, that is mostly true but some things get in. Uninvited guests slip in. Get in without anyone noticing.
The school day started out like any other day. I would wait until the school gates opened. While I was waiting my friend Jasson arrived.
“Oh, hello Jasson,” I said
“Hello, Bert,” He replied back.
Jasson never arrived at school on time let alone be dropped off here. While we were chatting I saw a tall figure watching us talk. I dismissed it as a figment of my imagination. I heard the gates creak open. It was time to go inside. Before we went inside I took a peek behind me. Nothing was there. So I was right, it was just a figment of my imagination. I strolled into the school courtyard. The layout of our school: Port Jackson private school. Was a strange one. The classes were placed at the very edge of the school property. You had to walk a long time to get there. That must be why school starts at 9:10. The oval was right in front of you when you walked in. The sporting centre was replaced over to the side a little bit. Then you had to go in a straight line for 10 minutes to get to class. That’s why recess lasted for 40 minutes. You would spend the last 10 minutes walking back to class. If there ever was an evacuation it would take 10 minutes to get out.
Once I got to class I greeted my fellow classmates and was on my way towards the oval. At our school there was no playground. Only the oval. What I would do was I would set a timer for 10 minutes. While I was waiting for the timer to go off I gazed at the sky. Watching the clouds go by. 5 minutes into my little ‘cloud gazing’ session I noticed something weird. It had gone all dark. The sun was nowhere to be seen. I stopped laying down and sat up. Now I’m no meteorologist but I’m pretty sure that in the morning the sun’s supposed to be shining. Every kid stopped what they were doing and gazed at the sky.
“What’s happening,” A kid said.
“I don’t know,” Another replied.
Then an alarm went blaring. It sounded like the in-vacuation alarm. It seemed everyone was under a spell, didn’t react to the alarm and just stood there in shock. Luckily some kids and I were smart enough to start heading towards the classrooms. Then the front gate blew open.
All I heard were screams, flesh tearing and blood spurting everywhere. I ran for my life and headed towards the classrooms. I got to one. The doors opened and me and the other kids got in. Just.
