Summary

New sounds rang out in the back alley. Footsteps, maybe. She panicked even more and kept begging me with her head down, "Please... Please help me. Or you can help me call the police now! I'll do anything you want me to..." "Anything?" I interrupted her. She was stunned for a second before she quickly nodded. "Yes!"

Chapter 1

Early in the morning, there was a sound in the quiet room as the first ray of sunlight shone into the window.

A slender and fair arm reached out from under the quilt. The owner of the arm seemed to have not woken up yet. She fumbled for her phone, but she couldn’t find it after searching the whole bed. Finally, she irritably pulled back the covers.

She was very beautiful. She wasn’t as exquisite as a typical Barbie doll. Her eyes were pointed up at the end, her pupils were very light with glass-like color, and her skin was very fair. All of these gave the impression that she was very ambitious. That kind of ambition made her beauty very vivid as if she were a beautiful oil painting.

Such a woman was beautiful even when she lost her temper. She tossed and turned as she searched for her phone. At that moment, her room door was knocked on three times.

“Amanda? Are you awake?” A vague female voice came from outside the door. It sounded like someone very close to her.

Amanda sat blankly on the bed for a few seconds before reacting to where she was now.

She was at her sister’s home.

Catherine was her older sister. And she had just gotten married recently, and Amanda was temporarily living with her.

“Yes. I’m awake, Catherine. I’ll be right out!” The knock on the door rang again, and Amanda came back to her senses from her daze and replied in a hurry.

Amanda was beautiful and did not need to put on heavy makeup. After a simple washup, she opened the door and went to the dining room. Her bare face would not damage her beauty. Instead, it made her more real and gorgeous.

“Good morning, Catherine.” Amanda walked into the dining room. Catherine made breakfast and was placing the coffee on the dining table.

“Good morning, Amanda,” Catherine smiled and placed the fried eggs and roasted tomatoes in front of Amanda. “It’s what you like.”

Amanda sat down at the dining table. She got up early, and she barely had an appetite. She took a fork and slowly sliced the juicy tomatoes. This variety of tomatoes had a lovely aroma. Amanda cut them open and put half of them on her toast.

Her playfulness made someone unhappy. The man sitting across from her, who was reading a financial newspaper, frowned as he saw what she was doing. He closed the paper and whispered, “Your sister made breakfast. If you don’t want to eat it, go out.”

There was a hint of warning in his tone. Amanda lifted her beautiful eyes and looked straight into his eyes.

It was James, her brother-in-law.

Being warned by him, Amanda didn’t say anything. Instead, she looked straight at James. To be honest, James was a very charming man. He was very handsome and very fond of Catherine, and their relationship was excellent.

When Amanda looked intently at a person with her beautiful eyes, her eyes were almost like that of a fox. If someone kept looking her in the eye, they would zone out easily as if they were being sucked into her world. James was one of the few people who would not be seduced by her. Instead, he pursed his lips and called out Amanda’s name very sternly.

She seemed to have suddenly lost interest and retracted her gaze. Instead, Catherine heard James’ sound. She turned around and looked at James and Amanda in confusion. “What is up? What happened?”

Amanda slowly bit the piece of toast. The crisp taste made her suddenly happy. She shrugged like a cunning but innocent fox as if she did not understand what this question had to do with her.

James closed his eyes slightly, trying to endure something. He finally said, “Nothing. I asked Amanda if she had enough.”

The farce ended. “Come into my study,” James whispered to Amanda as Catherine turned around.

Amanda wiped her every finger and smiled silently.

As soon as they entered the study, James closed the door and warned sternly, “If you keep doing this, leave your sister’s place and go live somewhere else. I’ll help you find a new apartment.”

Amanda did not look at him, nor was she frightened by his stern tone. Instead, she slowly sat on the sofa at the side. Her slender and beautiful hands supported her chin as she slowly said, “James, why are you angry? Well, I admit I have a slight interest in you...”

James interrupted her coldly, “Are you a robot, Amanda?”

The description was new to her. Amanda turned to look at him and frowned slightly. “What did you say?”

“You are so indifferent. You don’t seem to realize how upset Catherine will be if she senses your slight ‘interest’ in me, nor the fact that your sister and I are married. You never seem to realize that your actions will cause trouble for others. Or you simply don’t care about the trouble, do you?”

Amanda gradually pulled a long face. The playful smile on her face disappeared, and she asked, “Are you accusing me?”

“Don’t you deserve it? Amanda, you’re a human, not a machine. Or do you take pleasure in ruining other people’s feelings? Would anyone love a woman like you?” James’ eyes were mixed with irritation and pity, and compared with real humiliation, such a kind of pity upset her even more.

For the first time, she was speechless by his words. She wanted to tell James to stop flattering himself or to tell him that countless men wanted her to be their girlfriend. But she could not utter a word.

Without saying a word, she reached out and opened the door of the study. She did not want to argue with James. Catherine, her sister, who didn’t know anything, was still outside.

Amanda wandered around aimlessly, her mind filled with James’ blunt accusations, her heart weighed down with a feeling of restlessness. She admitted that she was a little interested in James, but so what? She was a little interested in him, and that was it. She never wanted anything to happen between them. What he said...

She stood at the seaside for a long time until the sun slowly approached the horizon, and the moon already had a shallow shadow.

She slowly let out a breath. That was when her long-dormant E-mail account received a new email. Her phone rang and pulled her back to reality.

A new mission had arrived.

She slowly pulled up the zipper of her new clothes. James could get lost along with his bullshit words. Now, she had more important things to do.
