First Chapter
"Finally, got the job done" i sighed, feeling exhausted from attempting my night-shift at Horton's café. I worked here everyday, from 6 PM till 11 PM.
As I exited the café, I checked my phone and waited for the bus to arrive, that was supposed to drop me off at my house, but the time had already passed, which meant I had to call a taxi. Worst of all, no taxi was available to pick me up. Only a few taxis i could find, that were too far away from my destination, so I decided to walk as there was no other option.
I adjusted my small back-pack on my right shoulder and began to walk. Usually Lily was left with me at this time, who is also a worker like me at the café, but she had taken leave tonight.
Streets were abandoned. No one, except for me was there, which was kind of relieving. I liked to stay alone especially at night, because I have nyctophilia.
As I walked, minutes passed of silence. It looked kind of strange to me that there were no people around because usually there were a few vehicles on the road, but tonight the streets were left alone.
Suddenly a horrible, deafening sound of police cars broke the silence. I could see a car coming towards me with it's light blinking blue and red, at it's roof. I backed backwards, I didn't know what had I done wrong. More sirens erupted. Not just one, now there were five to six cars near me. Their obnoxious sirens ringing in my ears.
What have I done? How do I get away with this???, My mind screamed.
As I was backing away, i felt my back touch someone else's. I slightly tilted my head to witness a man in black leather jacket with tiny spikes on shoulders, dark-grey jeans and black sneakers also with tiny silver spikes. I couldn't make out his face since he was wearing a tight black mask, but his eyes were visible. They were a very beautiful shade of blue - Caribbean blue, that perfectly matched his jet-black hair with a white streak in it, slightly covering his right eye.
He scarcely hesitated when our backs touched, however, I felt a rush of electricity running through my veins. I didn't dare to move, until a gaurd shouted "Hands up!"
I hesitantly raised my arms, as I felt him raising his arms in response.
A squad of uncountable policemen circled us. My heart was beating rapidly, sweat trickling down my face. My eyes searched for any space between the guards, from we can pass through. Fortunately, the circle of guards was broken from a spot.
A couple of other policemen had set barriers around us, so we couldn't move. But I came up with a better plan. I whispered to the guy behind me "hey,"
"Shhh", he hushed me.
I ignored him, "I can hide us. I know a place where they can't find-"
Before I could finish, a gaurd barked "Drop your weapons!"
I whispered to Blue-eyes "give me your hand!" I didn't know where that courage came from. I just wanted to run with him. Hide with him. Escape from all the attention.
We had dropped our arms already, so I grabbed his gloved hand "follow me"
"What the fu-"
"Keep it down, Blue-eyes."
Before he could respond, I started to run. My hand wrapped around his. I ran in the direction where the gaurds were standing the most, not where the circle was opened, just to confuse them. They would probably be thinking "why is she running towards us?" Or something like that.
As I came closer to those gaurds, more of them joined the posse. When I was close enough to make them decide that I'm not running away, i swiftly changed my direction and sprinted towards the opened side of the circle, and soon we both escaped. I was still holding his hand as I ran down a steep land, ran and ran until a small forest came in sight. I knew we could go inside and disappear into the dark. I slowed down a bit. I was panting with exhaustion from running fast for too long. I could hear the Blue-eyed guy right beside me, gasping for air, as well.
After a few moments, we stopped running. We had reached an area surrounded by greenery and darkness. Trees of almost every size were present there. I knew this place since I was just a little kid, and I used to visit here quite often. The memory of my childhood rushed into my head, both peaceful and horrifying. I tried not to focus too much on the past.
I bent down on my knees and stood my hands on them, breathing hard.
Eventually, before i could recover, I heard a brief and sharp hissing sound of zip. I slowly looked up, recovering from tiredness. He was taking off his jacket, revealing his sleeveless crimson T-shirt with a quote on it, in Priscilla font "Hell is empty and all the devils are here".
His arms were broad and muscular, and there was a shiny black watch on his left wrist.
He hung his jacket on a tree branch, as he took off his mask. For the first time, I saw his face. He hardly looked more than twenty-one years old. I gazed at his handsome features, until i distracted myself with the surroundings.
Every feature of his face was extraordinary. Extraordinary in a unique and beautiful way. The shape of his nose and lips...high cheek bones and a perfect jaw. He was gorgeous. And the hairstyle left-over gave his face a perfect design.
He ran a hand through his silky, soft hair, brushing away the white streak of his hair from his eye. Not just that part was white, but I noticed, there were a few more streaks of white in his hair, mostly on the right side.
His chest heaved as he inhaled and exhaled. At last, he looked at me "why have you brought me here?" He spoke in a calm and deep voice that soothed my ears and made my heart pound. After all the confidence and courage to run away from the cops and finding a perfect lonely spot, all those positive feelings fleed away, by his direct appearance, and conversation with me. I thought of the right words to say "I...because the police was after you? Of course we both had to run from them"
His features looked relaxed and tensed at the same time as he tilted his head in confusion, a little, which somehow borne butterflies in my stomach. I waited for his response, until he said "And you trusted me enough to bring me with you here?"
"Yes..."
"You're naive."
I didn't say anything a for a few moments until "I just thought I could help you get away. Who are you and what have you done? Why were they after you? And why me?"
"My name's Ryder, and it shouldn't matter to you. That's obvious that they were after me because I've done something illegal,"
"Why would you?"
He almost laughed, that sounded like a scoff, "Who else would commit a crime, but a criminal?"
My eyes widened.
What the hell have I done!? I keep doing silly things. This time I've encountered with a criminal. A criminal can do anything to you. He can harass you. He can play mind-games with you. He can hurt you in ways you have never imagined. What should I do now?
I opened my mouth to speak, but no words escaped my lips. After he was sure that I wouldn't say anything, he decided to do something surprising. He took a step forward. Another. And another. He was coming closer, slowly. I started to breathe in fear and breathe out my consciousness. I maintained eye contact with him, but second by second, my gaze was dropping.
I backed away from him, until i touched a tree.
Ugh. Everytime I'm reversing, something or someone interrupts me, I pointed out in my mind.
I tried so hard to camouflage my terrified voice, and I almost succeeded, "Do not come any closer."
His lips formed into a smirk, "Or what, hm?"
His body was just inches away from mine. Blood rushed into my cheeks, and my heart drowned in a flight of butterflies. I answered, keeping myself fearless from outside, "Trust me, you don't wanna know,"
"What do you think I'll do?" He smiled evilly.
"Stop asking silly questions"
He inched himself forward...until there was slightly any distance between us. I could feel the heat of his body, and his alcoholic breath.
He chuckled softly "Don't worry, chick. I'm harmless for now,"
He stood back from me, and I walked away from the tree. I sighed with relief, "What have you done?"
"Hm?"
"What crime have you commit?"
He showed a hint that he's interested in my question.
He replied, "It's none of your business, but I have no problem in telling you. But first share some water with me. I'm thirsty as fuck"
