"This was one of the 1st books I read on Inkitt maybe a few years back and I realise now that back then, grossly underestimated how good it is. I've probably read hundreds of books since then - both on Inkitt and traditional mainstream novels - and reading this again now just reminded me that this book is in a class if its own. I started off a bit repulsed, not remembering how it proceeded, but the author more than redeemed the story. Definitely a forever favourite ❤️"

Let me start by saying: this isn’t just a “hockey boy falls for girl-next-door” vibe. It’s that, yes, but it’s also a story about second chances, emotional growth, and women reclaiming their freaking power. (Also Vinnie. God help me, Vinnie. We’ll get to him.) Here’s what worked (and what made me yell into my coffee mug in the best way): 🌶️ Lana & Vinnie — Chemistry That Slaps Vinnie Venucci is every bit the golden boy with a tragic glint. He’s not just Lana’s brother’s best friend — he’s the one that got away... and then boomerangs back straight into her open mic night like the universe went, “Surprise, bitch!” Lana? Icon. Strong but soft. Scarred but not broken. Dealing with a controlling ex and STILL managing to hold her own when Vinnie reappears? Give this woman her crown and a therapy cat. 💥 Real Stakes, Real Trauma I loved that the author didn't shy away from the gaslighting and slow-burn toxicity of Lana’s ex. We don’t always get to see stories where the red flags are subtle — and I appreciated that this book didn’t need bruises to show danger. AND THEN WE GET HER ACTUALLY STANDING UP FOR HERSELF?! We love to see it. It’s not just a romance — it’s a reminder that you can choose yourself, even when it’s hard. 🧠 Witchy Observations (aka my nitpicks, but lovingly delivered): The opening? Okay, hear me out — starting with Vinnie crashing her live performance? Would’ve slapped hard. That shock! That public tension! Flashbacks could've filled in the backstory like puzzle pieces rather than starting slow and chronological. The payoff would’ve hit stronger. Vinnie’s age difference? I got a little whiplash trying to figure out if he was ten years older or just five. Five is fine. But that initial “he’s sooo much older” setup made me think she was 17 to his 30, which gave me anxiety before mathing it out. Clearer timelines would’ve helped. ❤️ Final Verdict: If you like: Brother’s best friend tropes “We had one night and years later I still feel it in my soul” energy Women setting boundaries and men actually respecting them (novel concept, I know) Slow-burn romance with a side of emotional catharsis Then read this. Right now. With coffee. And tissues. ✨ I laughed. I cried. I fist-pumped. 9.5/10 (because I want that flashback-restructure and one more steamy scene, okay? I’m greedy.)"

As someone who was once abused by my ex-husband, you did a great job of portraying the emotions and thoughts going through her mind. You did an excellent job of showing the importance of reaching out for help and not sweeping things under the rug. Keep writing and bringing attention to issues people aren't always comfortable discussing. 🙂 "
