I didn't want to go on this stupid field trip in the first place, but my parents insisted.

Unfortunately they had no idea that I was heavily pregnant.

My name is Heather Morris. This is the story of how I lost everything, and everyone I ever cared about....

The wind felt wonderful on my face as we sped through the water.

The boat was faster than most on-land vehicles these days.

I loved the ocean, despite the fact that my beautiful grandmother, the only person who had ever loved me unconditionally, had drowned.

My boyfriend, Christian, crept up beside me, and put his arm around my shoulder. His warmth was comforting.

Christian was quite tall. He had fluffy brown hair, honey colored eyes, and an adorable, crooked smile.

I loved him, a lot.

He had no idea yet, what he had done to me. I didn't intend on telling him. I didn't intend on telling anyone.

Of course my closest friend, Hazel, already knew, but she had found out on her own. I didn't tell her.

Christian snuggled closer to me. He was probably cold. He got cold so easily...

The boat slowed to a stop next to the recently built dock.

I had been mapping out the island in my head as we got closer to it. The recently discovered area of land wasn't very large. It had a decent sized forest, and a row of jagged cliffs.

Hazel grabbed my hand, communicating that she wanted to be partners when we explored the beach on the island.

We were not allowed to go in the woods. The people who had discovered the island had said that they had not explored the forest yet, and there could be unseen dangers lurking.

"Everyone get in groups of two please!"

One of the chaperones called out as the led us of the wobbly boat, and on to the island.

Hazel smiled. She, unlike me, hated boats, and most other vehicles of transportation. She sighed in relief as her feet hit solid ground.

I looked over to see Christian. He was chatting with his best friend, Scot. I assumed they would probably trail after us in secret. Scot might have a crush on Hazel. I've caught him staring in our direction several times at school.

Most of us lingered in small groups around the beach, we were not really interested in actually exploring, and the chaperone didn't seem to care as long as we weren't causing trouble.

"Hey, heather!"

Someone called. I turned around to see Scot, and Christian heading toward us. It seemed to be Scot who had called my name.

"Whats up?"

I asked, curious.

"Wouldn't it be cool to go check out the forest?"

Me and Hazel nodded enthusiastically. We were bored of the beach, and the chaperone would probably never notice we were missing if we didn't stay too long.

We ran across the beach toward the edge of the woods.

Nobody tried to stop us, though later thinking back, I wish they had.

We walked around for a bit. The forest was much more interesting than the plain, dry beach. It was amazing, how animals had lived here all these years without the nuisance of humans. The creatures of the island didn't know we were something to fear, and mingled around us in curiosity.

I saw Hazel holding a squirrel. She looked so carefree here. Her strawberry-blonde hair blended in perfectly with the way the sun filtered in through the trees.

She was obviously meant to dwell in the woods.

An hour passed without our little groups noticing. When Scot finally took a peek at his watch he gasped in surprise.

"We need to get back to the boat! They're leaving any minute now, we need to go!"

"No way!"

I yelled. We were already running through the forest. Fear had blossomed at the back of my mind, hysterical, irrational fear.

I wasn't paying attention to where I was putting my feet, focusing on speed.

This was a mistake.

I tripped over a root sticking out of the ground. I gasped in shock and pain. I could feel my ankle twisting as I fell, there was no way for me to stop the impact.

"Heather, are you okay?!"

Christian yelled. I was gritting my teeth, trying to stop my self from crying, I couldn't answer him.

The sound of pounding footsteps ahead of us stopped. Hazel, and Scot had sensed something was wrong, they came running back toward us.

Hazel crouched beside me, worry shone clearly in her eyes.

"What hurts?"

I stared at the ground, unable to meet her gaze.

"I think I twisted my ankle."

She nodded and grabbed it, twisting it back into place without a speck of mercy. I cried out in pain.

"She won't be able to walk for a few days. Christian can carry her for now."

Christian came over to me, and hoisted me into his arms. I could tell he was straining his muscles to carry me. The secret passenger I was carrying must have weighed more than I thought.

We began moving towards the beach. Our pace was much slower than before.

I knew what would happen the second I began to fall. It would be all my fault...

We reached the edge of the woods.

The beach stretched out before us. We could see the dock from where we stood.

The boat was leaving without us.

I was drowning in my fear.

The edges of my vision were fuzzing, but I could see the chaperone standing at the edge of the boat, staring calmly at the kids he had just abandoned.

Scot was running down the beach, shouting, swearing, and waving his fist at the chaperone.

Christian clutched me close to him. I could tell he was scared, but that was nothing compared to what I felt.

What about my baby?

The boat was moving fastly away from us.

Then it was gone, and we were alone.

Alone on the island in the middle of nowhere.

My vision faded to blackness.

Hey there!

I just finished reading your story and… wow. I’m honestly still thinking about it. Your writing pulled me right in, the characters, the emotions, the atmosphere, it all felt so real and immersive.
As I was reading, I couldn’t help but picture it as a comic. The way you build scenes and tension? It would shine with visuals. I’m a freelance artist, and I specialize in turning powerful stories like yours into vivid, emotionally-driven comics. I’d be beyond excited to collaborate with you and bring your world to life on the page.
No pressure at all! I just wanted to reach out in case this is something you’ve ever thought about. If you're curious or just wanna chat more about the idea, feel free to hit me up anytime on
