Chapter 1- He's Back
T’was a beautiful afternoon. Josh Jenkins, David Adams, and Kayla McCoy were hanging out in Josh’s bedroom. They were watching movies, played board games, and had an all-around good time.
Suddenly, the nighttime won over the sun. The moon came out, it was only 3:30 in the afternoon, quite strange. Alex, Josh’s older brother, looked out the window and saw absolutely nothing in the outside world. BOOM! The power inside the house went dark. Everyone was freaking out. Josh’s mother realized they had no flashlights on them. They only had candles. Only a small amount of candles were found. They were used savingly.
The lights finally came on 5 hours later. David and Kayla were finally able to return home. They were both in for a big lecture on why you should let your parents know you were going to stay 5 hours more.
When David and Kayla were walking home, they saw a tall dark figure standing at the end of the block. They both looked away and the figure had disappeared. They wanted to go back to Josh’s house, but they unknowingly had gone 5 blocks away.
Suddenly Kayla saw a car, and right before it passed she yelled for the driver’s attention. The driver stopped the car and rolled down the window. “Yes?’ said the driver. “Um hello… sorry can you please take us to our houses?” said Kayla. I saw a creepy creature down that block”. The woman takes off her glasses. “Oh Mrs. McCarthey, I didn’t recognize you”. Said, Kayla.
“Now, what did you say about a creature?”. Said Mrs. McCarthey. When David glanced at the forest it was about 20 feet tall. “Um…. Kayla the thing grew bigger.” Said David, “What do you mean-” Kayla looked up. “It’s walking towards us,” David said. “Can we please get in your car?” Said Kayla desperately.
“Ok get in!” Said Mrs. McCarthey. “Are we still going to our houses?” “NOOOOO way kiddo it’s way too dangerous out there we’re going to the police station.” Said Mrs. McCarthey anxiously. “The car engine stops” “Dang it!” Mrs. McCarthy said loudly. “What do we do now?” said David nervously.” “Ok so we’re going to sprint to the nearest house and knock on their door, “Mrs.McCarthy said quickly. They rushed over to the nearest house. Mrs. McCarthey knocked on the door faster than flash could run. Finally, someone answered. “Yes,” the woman said. “Can we please come to your home?” “I know it sounds weird but there’s a REALLY strange thing out there and it might kill us, but please” Said Mrs. McCarthey desperately.”
“He’s back,” said the woman, spacing out. “What,” said Mrs. Carthey confusingly. Come inside and I’ll tell you the rest. A few minutes later the woman locks all the doors in the house and closes all the windows and gives McCarthey, Kayla, and David hot cocoa. The woman sits in the chair and Mrs. McCarthey, David, and Kayla sit on the couch about to tell a story.
“So what is happening?” Said David nervously. “Ok so I’m about to tell you the deepest darkest story of Burlington, Vermont,” Said the woman. In 1919 there was this myth that was going on about a monster. Now one was worried because it could be anywhere in the world, but a few days later the people started narrowing it down to the US.” said the woman. “Then what else,” said Kayla. Someone knocked furiously. David and Kayla were petrified. Mrs. McCarthey slowly began to stand.”What if it’s the thing that she told us.” said David nervously. “Wait, is there a way to kill it?.” “I haven’t found out yet.” the woman said. Suddenly all the lights in the house start flickering and everything starts turning on and after a few moments, everything goes silent.
