Prologue
Fielan was a special case; in fact, none like her existed in all the Fae lands.
She was blessed with three souls—blessed being the operative word. One from her human mother and one from her father. Her mother had died giving birth in the human world. Her father, a Fae warrior, had taken his own life the minute he felt his lover die. Both souls entered the baby. None knew whether this was coincidental or deliberate.
She was retrieved from the human world post haste and grew up in an orphanage. If you looked carefully, you could see that she wasn’t fully Fae. She was shorter than average and a little more curvaceous. Her wings were slightly smaller, and her eyes were definitely human.
Every effort was made to extract the other souls, but nothing worked till eventually it was decided that she should be watched carefully. Life went on until strange happenings were reported.
In certain areas, the boundaries between the Fae and the human world started fading, and humans caught glimpses of the Fae, granting them entry into a land they had no business in.
The King had dispatched fairies from every corner to fix the problem, but it persisted. The constant need for fairy magic to keep the barriers in place could not be maintained.
The King summoned the Masters of Lore, hoping to find a solution. They found a scroll older than time itself, where it was written that the human world would merge with the Fae kingdom if a child were born with a soul from each realm.
The child’s true soul had to be woken, and the others broken. The King summoned Fielan…
