Chapter 1
It is another sunny morning, I wake up at 9 a.m. after snoozing my alarm twice being grateful that it is a Saturday. It has been a long week trying hard to land baking and pastry job so that I can continue funding my savings towards starting my own bakery. It has been my dream for a long time.
My name is Cassi Felt, a 25 year old who has ambitions and dreams. I currently live alone in my small apartment. I don’t own much, it is an open plan apartment, having my living room to the left and the kitchen to the right from the door.
In the middle where the kitchen and the living room meet is a corridor leading to my bedroom which is just enough for my 6 by 5 bed which was a gift from my mother, a chest of drawers where I keep my clothes, a small vanity and a small shoe rack.
Opposite the bedroom is the bathroom which has a toilet and a shower, a wash hand basin and a small cabinet under it.
My living room has a three seater, a brown rectangular coffee table, small bookshelf, a radio and a television.
The kitchen has a door leading to a small balcony where I have converted into storage space and a small area to hang my clothes to dry.
I love my small space, it is my home for now. I decided to get up from the bed and do my morning routine then finally sitting in the living room going through my phone for any messages or emails in case I got a job. Unfortunately I got none, this makes me feel so sad thinking of the rent that is due in two weeks time.
At this rate I decided on taking any job that may come my way since my savings are running low. I actually have two separate accounts, one for my upkeep and the other I have dedicated to my bakery. I do this because I don’t want to be a burden on people especially my parents knowing how they have struggled so much in bringing me up. I would love to help them however I can. Because of this, I do try my best not to touch even a cent on the bakery savings account.
Suddenly my phone rings interrupting my thoughts, upon checking the caller, it’s my best friend Talia.
I receive the call with a smile on my face because she’s such a ball of sunshine always out to make people happy. “Hi girl what are you up to this weekend? I’d like us to go out, loosen up a bit, what do you say?” She asks.
“I don’t think I can Talia, I’m feeling so down, I didn’t manage to get any job and my rent is due in two weeks”. I reply.
“Oh dear Cassi don’t you worry, everything will be fine very soon. I am sure of it. Just take a day at a time. Come on, let's get out there you never know who you’ll meet”. Talia replies.
You see why I love this girl, with just a few words she’s already uplifted my spirit. I think about her suggestion and agree to go out and ‘loosen up’ as she termed it.
As much as I wanted to stay indoors today, Talia will be here by 6:30 in the evening to go to her favorite club, The Spice.
After Talia’s call there was nothing eventful throughout the day I just did my laundry and cleaning the house, occasionally dancing and singing as I listened to music from my radio.
Looking at the clock on my wall I notice I’ve got one hour before Talia gets here, so I hurry to get a shower and dress up wondering how the remainder of the day will be like.
There's a knock at my door signaling Talia’s arrival, as usual very punctual. I walk towards my door as I’m grabbing my purse and key. We greet each other and shortly afterwards we are on our way to the club.
