Wolf Pups

Imogen

Over the weekend my boyfriend Ash took me on a romantic surprise trip and proposed to me on the beach. That night I passed out and ended up in the hospital only to find out that I’m pregnant. Engaged and pregnant, in one day, but I’m ecstatic and so is Ash. He’s been taking excellent care of me and being sweet about the baby.

Ash and I went to the OBGYN to confirm the pregnancy and find out how far along I am. It turns out I’m pregnant with twins and I’m ten weeks along. Even though it made me happy I was instantly overwhelmed by the prospect but Ash is over the moon.

He cooked us a healthy dinner to celebrate and we have a plan on when to tell our parents. Ash’s mom is flying in to celebrate the engagement this weekend so we’re going to tell everyone tomorrow. After dinner, Ash and I are in bed cuddling and talking about everything coming up for us.

“Im, what are you thinking about the wedding?” he asks.

“About the wedding in general or something specific?”

“Do you want to get married before the babies come?”

“I’d like to but I don’t know how to pull it off, I noticed today I’ve already got a little bump.”

“What!? Show me,” he smiles and sits up excitedly.

I lift my shirt and point low on my belly to where I detected a little bump. Ash’s eyes light up and he kisses the spot.

“Hi babies,” he grins.

“You’re so cute,” I laugh.

“I like that I can sort of see them hanging out in there. You’re so beautiful and perfect and now you have very precious cargo, it’s exciting.”

“You’re going to be such a good daddy.”

“And you’re going to be the best mommy. We’re going to tell everyone tomorrow right? So it’s okay if you’re showing at the wedding.”

“I just want to feel pretty; I don’t want to be huge.”

“Im, you’re beautiful always but now, you’re glowing, I’ve never really seen you look prettier.”

“Thank you wolfy and I believe you think that but it’s like I never imagined waddling down the aisle.”

“If the babies weren’t a factor what would you want?”

“I’ve been thinking and honestly, I think it would be nice to have a small ceremony on the beach, you know, where we had our first date.”

“That’s perfect,” his face lights up, “I bet we could pull it off before the babies come especially because you know our moms are going to go all grandma mode and they’ll be wanting to help.”

“Do you think your mom will move here?” I wonder out loud.

“Once she finds out about these little bundles I bet she will.”

“Oh no.”

“What, Im?”

I take off for the bathroom. I’ve been losing my dinner every night this week and I’m getting really frustrated. Ash is quick behind me and he holds my hair back. He’s been the sweetest I could possibly ever ask for, sitting on the bathroom floor with me, rubbing my shoulders and feet, he’s a dream man.

“I’m sorry baby, I’m sorry I did this to you but I’m so proud of you for carrying our little wolf pups.”

“Awe, Ash, wolf pups? I love it.”

“Well, it makes sense, and wolf packs stay together like families.”

I throw up again.

“I love you but stop being so cute when I’m trying to be miserable,” I whine.

Ash helps me clean up and we get into bed for the night. He’s been sleeping with his hand on the babies every night and I love it.

“I love you Im, I love you babies, good night.”

“Good night Ash, I love you.”

When I wake up the next morning I’m excited that I actually made it through the night without getting sick again. Ash is still asleep and he’s wrapped around me with his hands on my belly. I turn to face him and nuzzle into his neck and he’s so warm and smells so good that I give in and fall back to sleep. Next time I wake up Ash is not in bed with me anymore. When I wander into the living room I find him at the kitchen counter making breakfast.

“Good morning, beautiful.”

“Good morning, Mr. Right.”

“Hmmm, I like the sound of that,” he grins.

He looks amazing standing there shirtless in only black cotton shorts; I wrap my arms around his waist from behind, “What are you making?”

“Nothing too crazy, I don’t want to make you sick. Just toast and a smoothie since you were able to keep that down yesterday.”

“You’re the sweetest man in the world,” I kiss the back of his shoulder before I let him go.

“Are you ready for today?” he asks.

“As ready as I’m going to get, they’re going to be happy right?”

“I don’t see why not, they’re happy about the engagement, it’s natural we’d have kids.”

“Garrett is probably going to pass out,” I laugh.

“We’ll just make sure he’s sitting down.”

Ash brings our breakfast to the couch and after we eat I go into the bedroom to try to figure out what to wear. After the tenth dress that I’m convinced shows my belly I start to get really upset and tears flow freely.

“Im, what’s wrong?”

“None of these dresses work, I feel terrible, I’m tired.”

Ash wraps his arms around me, “Hey, Im, take a breath. You’re beautiful and you can take a nap before we go.”

“What am I going to wear?”

“What’s wrong with all of these?”

“You can see the bump.”

“I think you can see the bump but no one else will and besides it’s okay if they do, we’re going to tell them anyway,” he smiles softly as he runs a calming hand through my hair.

“Yeah.”

“See, it’s all going to be okay, do you want to take a nap?”

“I probably should,” I admit.

I feel defeated because now I don’t have the ability to push through like I did before. I’m always tired so even though it’s not even lunchtime yet I should take a nap, it’s going to be a big day.

“Lay down, I’ll make sure you’re up in time.”

“Can you snug me?” I ask sweetly.

“Of course,” Ash gets into bed with me and stays with me until I fall asleep.

A few hours later he wakes me up to get ready for the party. After we have a snack we take a shower. I find the dress that makes me feel the most normal; a purple dress that is tight on top but flares at the hips.

When I step into the bedroom I ask, “What do you think?”

“You look amazing, I love that dress,” his eyes light up.

“You’re sweet.”

“Nope, just honest,” he kisses my forehead.

“Thank you babe, I will be ready in about twenty minutes.”

“Take your time,” he smiles before he turns back to his iPad.

He’s been drawing beach themed tattoos that he actually likes to put on his work station, when he gets tired of tattooing it he takes it down. He’s been a lot happier at work ever since. I leave him to his work and go into the bathroom to complete my ready routine. After I finish my hair and makeup, I leave with Ash and head to my parents’ house.
