Chapter 1
IF
5 years ago someone would’ve told me I’d be miles away from home working at a high end bar by night and a diner by day I would’ve evaporated into thin air. Where I come from its not exactly a happy-go-lucky place, the atmosphere itself could’ve put anyone in a deep depression. thankfully those days are over...well at least for me they are.
Waking up to the birds chirping at the crack of dawn isn’t as charming as they made it out to be in movies, especially not after working my ass off the night before. Rolling over to the other side of the bed I blinked the grogginess out of my eyes and glanced over at the alarm clock...I groaned out loud when it read 8:00 AM I did in fact wake up too early to go into work. I was fully aware that there was no way in hell I would be able to fall asleep again so I did the next best thing...and got ready for work
yay me...
Yanking off the blanket off of my body I made my way towards my bathroom, once I was at the sink I proceeded by brushing my teeth for exactly 2 minutes I know this because I made it a habit. Choosing this time to examine myself in the mirror...the bags under my eyes had gotten darker more prominent than ever but I guess thats what happens when you work two jobs to make ends meet, you forget to look after yourself. My hair on the other hand wasn’t that bad sure it needed a good brush but it wasn’t overly chaotic for today at least it will do.
Moving past the first part of my morning routine I moved onto the easier part-picking out an outfit of course. Opening the closet door I plucked out my uniform shirt which was a bright pink accompanied by the logo on the upper chest side I normally pair it with black legging but the Seattle cold is not meant to be taken lightly so I’ll stick to some light washed jeans instead and finishing it off with my knee high boots.
Quickly checking the time again I noticed it had already hit 9:15 which meant I needed to get a move on things if I wanted to make it to work before 9:40. I rushed to do my hair pulling it up in a ponytail leaving some fringes out to frame my face-spraying it down with the dry shampoo. After I was done I grabbed my purse slinging it across my body while simultaneously putting my name tag on and shoving my phone in my back pocket...locking the door was a lot quicker, I made it to the side walk in no time starting my walk to the diner.
When I first moved to Seattle, Lance’s diner was the only place hiring I was lucky enough to get hired on the spot they had been understaffed and I needed the money so it was a win-win situation. the cozy atmosphere drew in everyone who laid eyes on it plus not to mention how amazing the hot chocolate it. Rounding the corner the familiar neon lights flashed signaling how close I was to the entrance and the long shift that awaits me. letting out a quiet sigh I mentally prepared myself for what’s to come.
4hours later
“RYN!!! TABLE NUMBER THREE” I hear Luca yell while I’m walking back from collecting menus, I swiftly jog over to where the order was placed on a tray and made my way to its designated table.
“Here you go gentlemen , your bacon mushroom burger with mozzarella sticks and banana milkshake” I handed it over to one of the guys with a yellow cap.
“thank you pretty lady ” he sent a nod my way and instantly dug in.
“and for you fried hot wings and a Nutella shake. Enjoy’ flashing them a sincere smile I left them to eat while I made my way into the kitchen to see if anybody needed help, which didn’t take long.
“Ezryn dear could you help me out in the front with the cashier for a while, I can’t seem to catch a break.” Emilia chuckled softly she was one of my favorite coworkers who’s in her early forties but you could see the years on her face. her husband was a complete sweetheart he often buys the girls here flowers as a thank you. Her eyes held a hint of embarrassed as she asked.
" Go, don’t worry I got you covered” I sent her a smile with a gentle push and made my way to the front. by now it was rush hour which meant we had a lot of people needed to be shown to a table or others who were here for a quick pickup-either way we were packed.
a couple of hours had past since our last order , I looked up at the Clock and saw that it read 7:30pm I was internally jumping with joy.
When I saw that it was almost time for me to head home, I tidied up the front a lot while waiting for more customers. I knew that around this time. We very rarely got any visitors so I opted for cleaning. I was so engrossed in Stapling the stack of papers with orders that didn’t notice When someone walked up to me.
