Tom Marvolo Riddle is my friend

It was a magnificent Saturday morning when Ophelia was asleep peacefully beside her sister. But that pleasant moment culminated when her brothers barged into their room, jumping on their beds. Dan, one of their older brothers, started attacking Collie with a pillow. Ced on the other hand, picked up Lia and threw her over his shoulders.

“AHHHH!” shrieked Collie as she tried to prevent her face from getting hit.

“STOP IT, I’LL TELL MUM AND DAD!” yelled Lia.

Stop it, I’ll tell mum and dad.” Dan mocked as Lia and Collie, both shot him a dangerous glare.

“What in the name of Merlin is going on in here?” Diana, their mother, walked in.

“MUM, THEY ARE ABUSING US!” cried Lia as she tried to run from Cedric grasp, but he caught her just in time. Diana chuckled looking at her children. Finally, Ced and Dan let go of the girls.

“Breakfast is ready.” Announced Diana. Dan and Ced raced each other down the stairs. Lia pulled out her sister’s white sweatshirt with a pink butterfly printed in the middle. She wore it over her tank top and quickly scrambled down the stairs.

“Hey, that’s my sweatshirt!”

“Do I look like I care?” Lia snapped back at her sister which made Cedric and Darius laugh. The Diggory children were all taken away by the smell of their mother’s delicious cooking. There was toast, eggs, butter, sausages, bacon, omelet, coffee, and some juice. Cedric and Colette took a cup of coffee and some toast. The clatter of silverware filled the silence. Until someone broke it.

“Oh, look its Polly!” Lia pointed outside the window as their pet tawny owl approached them carrying mails and letters.

“Ceddy, will you fetch the letters, please?” asked Diana softly. Cedric nodded and grabbed the mails from Polly’s beak.

“Oh, look it’s our Hogwarts letters!” Cedric exclaimed. “And… Lia has got one too.” He beamed at Lia who choked on her juice. She snatched the letter out of his hand and ripped it open.

“I AM GOING TO HOGWASH! I AM GOING TO HOGWASH!” she hollered breathlessly, running around the kitchen. “It’s called Hogwarts, you idiot.” Stated Dan while ruffling her brown, silky hair. When she stopped jumping, her family pulled Lia into a warm embrace. Cedric and Diana kissed her forehead. Out of nowhere, Amos, their father, apparated into the kitchen. He rushed towards Lia and picked her up, spinning her in the air. Amos put his youngest daughter down and kissed her cheek.

“My baby girl is growing up!” he cried with joy.

“I thought I was your baby girl!” frowned Collie. Everyone laughed. The Diggory family got ready and stood in front of the fireplace. Diana was holding a pot with what looked like dirt. They were going to use the Floo network.

“Lia, you first.” Directed Amos.

“But dad, Lia has never traveled by the Floo powder before.” Dan pointed out.

“Oh, well Ced you go first so that she can see how it is done.” Exclaimed Diana.

Cedric went in the fireplace and stood there. Then, he grabbed a handful of Floo powder and shouted, “DIAGON ALLEY!” Whoosh! There was a huge green flame and Cedric disappeared. Lia was stunned.

Collie and Dan went together. And at last it was Lia’s turn. She gulped and went forward.

“DIAGONALLEY!”

She then disappeared in the green flames. Lia had a weird sick feeling stomach. There was a lot of spinning. She couldn’t breathe and felt like throwing up. Suddenly, she could see the ground and… THUD! She fell on the ground. Lia gave a painful moan and stood up. The girl looked around and saw a dark shop with gruesome looking objects. She was examining these odd displays at the shop. Suddenly, Lia saw two blonde people walking in the shop. The Malfoys.

“…How dare those mudbloods masquerade as wizards and witches- ah! Ms. Diggory, what brings you here?”

“I-”

“Hopefully you are not with your mudblood neighbours.” Draco interrupted.

“Now, now, Draco play nicely.” Lucius snapped as he poked his cane at Draco’s neck.

“Lucius I hope you are not harassing my daughter.” Spoke a different but recognizable voice.

“DAD!” Lia ran and hugged her dad. She let go and saw Cedric behind as he put and arm around her protectively.

“Amos. Nice to meet you, Cedric. Your daughter here was examining the shop.”

Amos nodded and left with his son and daughter. They were walking back towards Diagon Alley.

“Sis, how did you get there? We were so worried, and we started looking for you.” Said Cedric in a troubled tone.

“I think I pronounced Diagon Alley wrong. That’s all.”

The Diggorys resumed their shopping in Diagon Alley the rest of the afternoon. Amos bought a black cat for Lia. She was exceptionally delighted with it and named the cat Lucy. The family later came home and started packing for tomorrow. Cedric, Lia, Dan, and Collie were going with their dad to see the Quidditch World Cup along with the Weasleys including Harry Potter, and Hermione Granger.

Diana was preparing their supper, when Lia was in her (and her sister’s) bedroom. She was going through the school supplies while she noticed a blackened, leather diary in her cauldron. She picked it up and studied it. The cover read TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE with gold letters. She opened it a flipped through all the pages, but found nothing. Not even a single page had a drop of ink. So, Lia pulled out her quill, dipped it in a bottle of ink and begun writing.

My name is Ophelia Diggory. The sentence gradually disappeared and was quickly replaced with a lovely cursive handwriting.

Hello Ophelia, I am Tom.

Lia was outraged. She licked her soft, plump, lips and wrote…

Are you a person? How can you write back through a book?

I live in this diary. You see, I preserved soul in it when I was sixteen. I was born fifty years ago.

Whoa.

I must say, your questioning is rather amusing.

Thank you. My siblings say that I question too much.

How many siblings do you have?

Three. I have two older brothers and one older sister.

So, I am guessing you are the baby of your family?

Yes. Good annoying, really. They indulge me more than enough. Do you have any sibling?

I am afraid not. I am the only child. It is quite peaceful though.

Lucky. I wish it was calm here.

Is it not?

No. I can hear them yelling and playing from upstairs.

They talked, or shall I say wrote, like pals.

So, what house do you think you’ll be in?

I think Hufflepuff. My whole family including my ancestors were sorted in Hufflepuff. But to be honest I like Slytherin. I rather find them quite interesting.

So, do you have any friends?

Not really. We live in the highlands of Scotland.

Well, you’ve got a friend now.

As the times passed, Lia wrote to him every spare moment she could find that night. Tom and Lia discussed about Hogwarts, and their personally secrets that both promised to keep to themselves. On the other hand, her family saw a smear change in her. A very sudden one. Once during dinner, she threw the plate at her mom’s face because it wasn’t her favorite dish. The next time, her sister was telling her that muggle-borns are nice people, but she wouldn’t agree and instead Lia called them ‘Filthy Mudbloods’ and stormed out of the room without another word. She was more annoyed, and more discourteous. But the major problem is, what is happening to her and what or who caused it? Everyone questioned themselves.
