Hooks You With Disarming Charm
"Who wouldn't want to orbit this delightful slow-burn romance? The author blends his skills with meter and rhyme into a story of love under the spotlight. A Hollywood star who has been facing a falling career has her world shook when she finds herself falling for a fan, instead. The Characters & Plot Kelvin is the textbook golden retriever boyfriend: enthusiastic, a total goofball, and loyal to a fault. Aliyah can't help but be drawn to him when he raps for her at a signing. The only problems, he's only there for the summer and she's never dated someone unfamiliar with the pressures of Hollywood. The Craft E.J. Shaun is a lyrical master, weaving rap lyrics into his narrative in a seamless and meaningful way. Each beat is a masterpiece. The author's dedication to the English language and assuring accessibility in reading is evident on every page. Constructive Note The pacing of the slow burn is excellent, with each character's emotional connection and communication styles being tested. Leaning more into that contrast will heighten the emotional payoff when summer eventually draws to a close. Final Verdict This a beautiful story blending the worlds of romance, hip hop, and what it's like to fall in love when all eyes are on you. What will happen when summer ends?"
Rap and Hiphop in a romance novel? UM, YES PLEASE!
"I really like the dynamic setup. Kelvin is a little socially awkward, but there are moments where he shines. At the same time Aliyah is untouchable with moments of humility. It's a great dynamic. I also really like that there aren't stereotypes in the book that feel forced. Kelvin, the skating rapper, is who he is, not just a flippant character trait. They feel real, which makes the story all the better."
