Chapter 1

“Daphne! Wake up if you want to go to church! We’re leaving in 5.” Dad calls from the hall.

“Ughhh I’m not going I’m too tired from last night.” I grumble. He needs to stop yelling, I have a headache.

“And that’s why you don’t stay out late with your friends.” He retorted. I glare at him through the wall and wait for him to go downstairs.

”Fine then, stay hom with Josh.” He then goes downstairs

I sigh, Josh is great and all but sometimes my twin brother can be annoying and overprotective.

Especially overprotective.

I do have to say for a 17-year-old loser he can be pretty fun at times. Anyway, enough about Josh.

Let me introduce myself. I’m Daphne Ann Williams, I’m 17 , I have a twin brother, and a dad, (My Mom died when I was young, ) I have brown wavy hair, I’m 5′6, and I run track.

As I’m walking down the stairs 5 minutes later I hear dad and Josh yelling at each other, surprise surprise. They’re probably arguing about him driving again.

Technically we can both drive to school but Josh wants to drive other places too. (Dad is very strict about driving and said we can get our licenses when we’re 18)

Our birthday is in a couple of months so we’ll get our license soon.

“What are you guys arguing about?” I ask.

“We weren’t arguing,” grumbles Josh.

“Mhm sure,” I say. “Dad, won’t you be late for church?”

Dad sighs. “Yeah I’d better get going, be good. I’ll be home around 3 because there’s a church meeting after.” He says.

We say our goodbyes and Josh and I grin at each other.

“Finally.” We say at the same time.

After about an hour of watching Scooby Doo (Josh’s choice, don’t ask) I hop up and announce that I’m going to invite some friends over.

“Which ones?” Josh asks.

“.... Why? You never ask that, probably just Landon, Blake, And Mark,” I say confused.

“Why not Tessa and Kate too?” He asks.

“Fine you weirdo, i’ll invite Tessa and Kate, I forgot you have the hots for Kate” I smirk.

" I do not have the ‘hots’ for Kate, I just wondered why you wouldn’t invite them.” He says blushing.

“I dunno, they might be busy anyway, I’ll ask.”

I text the group chat ”Hey do you guys wanna come over?” - D

"Yuhh I’ll pick u up Landon “-Mark

" yeehaw“-Landon

"Ofc loser(; ,“- Tessa

"I’ll come after church lol ,“-Kate

" Sure thing daphy waphy“-Blake

“Well? Who all is coming?” Josh asks

“Everyone but your girlfriend, she is still at church” I say.

“She’s. Not. My. Girlfriendddd.” He growls.

“Sheesh ok.” I say, giggling.

“I’m going to take a shower before they come, I smell like Scooby Doo.” He says while running up the stairs.

“... I- never mind,” I say confused, ” I’ll get ready too.” I walk up the stairs slowly, gosh, I’m dizzy for some weird reason.

I get to my room and start to brush out my long brown waves, then I apply some mascara and lip gloss. No need for heavy makeup if I’m not trying to impress anyone, my friends have seen me at my very worst so I don’t change my outfit.

I hear the doorbell ring then Josh yelling, ”DAPH, MARK AND LANDON ARE HERE!!”

“OK!” I scream back. I run down the stairs.

“Heyyyy shorty.” Landon says.

“I said stop calling me that!” I yell. Landon, Mark and Josh all look at each other and laugh.

“Whatever.” I mutter.

Just then the doorbell rings.

“I'LL GET IT!” I scream. I open the door and it’s Blake and Tessa. “You guys drove together?” I ask, surprised.

Blake grins while Tease glares at him.” Sadly yes.”

Everyone is friends in the group, but Tessa always gets annoyed by Blake.

“Let's go watch a movie.” I suggest.

Everyone agrees so they go pick a movie while I make popcorn, as its in the microwave my head starts to hurt really bad so i sit on the counter.

“Are you ok?” Blake asks, scaring me.

I plaster on a smile, “Of course!”

“....Ok then?” He says, not believing me. He walks away after washing his hands in the sink.

Sigh, Blake has liked me for as long as I can remember, everyone knows but Blake doesn’t know that.

Josh hates it because he claims that if we date “I’ll be scarred for life knowing what you to might do together”I'm. "

Whatever that means.

* BEEEEEP*

The microwave goes off and I almost had a heart attack, "Why do I get scared so easily now a days" I think to myself.

“DAPHNE GET YOUR BUTT IN HERE, WE’RE WAITINGGG.” My lovely brother screams.

I roll my eyes as i grab the popcorn out of the microwave.

“Good you’re here, we were about to start it without you.” remarks Tessa.

“We can start it now, thanks for waiting.” I say chuckling a bit.

I make myself comfortable with my head on Marks lap. I see Josh glaring at me from the other side of the couch.

“Dude chill.” I say, “Why does it matter if I lay down on one of my best bros lap anyway?” I glare at him but he glares right back. Tisk tisk, overprotective brothers are so dumb.

Mark chuckles, “Don’t worry bro, I could never like Daph, we’re like siblings. Plus, she’s not my type.” I swear I saw him glance at Tessa when he said that, huh.

I narrow my eyed at him. "Are you saying I'm not pretty enough?"

Blake snickers. “Dude, don’t make her mad, you know what happens when Daphne gets angry.”

“Just push play.” I snap.

It was three o’clock by the time we watched all of the ”How to Train Your Dragon” movies.

“Dang those just get better each time we watch them, I swear.” Tessa mutters sleepily while yawning.

She was practically on Josh’s lap, he and Mark were already asleep.

“WAKE UPPP! WAKE UP WAKE UP WAKE UP.” I scream. They both jerk awake, Josh pushing Tessa off the couch by accident. We all laugh while Tessa glares at him.

*ding*

“Dad texted and said he’s on his way home from church.” Josh says sadly.

“You know what that means,” I announce. “Everyone up and out, don’t want to get in trouble.”

Everyone gets up and is about to walk out the door but Blake stop. "Uhhh guys? I think we forgot about Kate.”

“Oops, yeah you’re right, well its not really our fault she’s not back from church yet. I’ll text her don’t worry.” I say.

We say our goodbyes and Josh and I look and each other,

" LAST ONE TO TOUCH THE FRIDGE HAS TO CLEAN THE LIVING ROOM!” We yell at the same time while racing to the kitchen.

Dad comes home as I’m vacuuming the floor.

(I mighttt have lost the race to the kitchen, we don’t talk about it)

“HI DAPHNE, DO YOU KNOW WHERE JOSH IS? I WANTED TO TALK TO HIM.” Dad yells over my vacuuming.

I mouth “upstairs” and he walks away.

Dad is a really busy man, hardly home. He’s a pilot, and he gets a lot of unexpected jobs for some odd reason. I’ve actually only flown on a plain twice, which is surprising. Dad wasn’t even flying.

I decide to head upstairs because its getting late, plus I needed to call Landon. I walk up the stairs sleepily and head into bed after washing my face and brushing me teeth.

After a quick conversation about homework with Landon I drift off into a deep sleep....
