A man walked into a store. Inside the store worked a shopkeeper who sold many different things. The man greeted the shopkeeper and the shopkeeper greeted the man. The shopkeeper read a newspaper, and to his left was a small cage that hung from the ceiling. The man walked up to the cage and looked inside.
“I have seen many different things in my life, but never anything as ugly as that animal. What is it?” asked the man
“That is no animal. That is a Demon.” said the shopkeeper still reading his newspaper.
“A Demon?” asked the man in disbelief.
“Yes, a Demon.” replied the shopkeeper.
The man furrowed his brow. He turned towards the cage and leaned in to get a better look. As he leaned in, the Demon jumped up from its corner and lunged at the man. It reached with its claws through the bars of the cage barely missing the man’s throat. The man stepped back quickly. The Demon hissed, growled, bit at the cage, reached for the man with its claws, and it cursed the man in a guttural language he had never heard before.
“Why on earth would you keep a Demon in your store?!?” Don’t you know what will happen if it gets out?? The man asked shocked.
“The cage is not for my protection, but rather it is for the Demon’s.” said the shopkeeper still reading his newspaper.
The man looked at the Demon. He could see all its features clearly. Horns, sharp teeth, claws capable of tearing a man’s face off, black eyes, and black hideous hate filled face.
“You’re insane.” said the man.
The shopkeeper smiled. He put down his newspaper and walked to the cage. The shopkeeper looked at the man and then he opened the cage door. The shopkeeper then walked back to his newspaper and began reading again.
The man took four steps back immediately. The Demon saw the cage door open and it instinctively jumped to the opening of the cage door. The Demon stood at the entrance of the cage. It looked at the open door and it looked at the man. The Demon stared at the man and it smiled hideously. The man watched, frozen in place, and unable to breathe.
The Demon began to move out of the cage, but it paused. At the entrance to the cage, the Demon hesitated. The Demon looked around uncomfortably, it looked at the man and then it looked at the shopkeeper. The Demon stood still for a long time at the entrance to the cage. After awhile, it stepped back into the cage, closed the door shut, and went back to its corner.
The man stood frozen for a long time. When he spoke, he spoke very quietly.
“You’re insane.” The man muttered.
The man turned around, and on shaky legs he exited the store.
The shopkeeper read his newspaper.
