Silent partner
Third POV
The man drags a bloody and dishevelled body by one of its limp arms, along a corridor in an abandoned warehouse. He picks it up like a dishrag and throws it on a pile of bodies in the corner.
“Did you really have to make such a mess?” He grunts looking at his partner as he tries to wipe the blood from his hands with his handkerchief.
His partner, however, pays him no mind as he walks out of the building.
He sighs, as he lights a match and throws it on the gasoline-drenched pile of corpses, instantly catching light. “This is going to be so much paperwork.”
Walking out of the crumbling building, he catches sight of his partner leaning against the bonnet of his black SUV and just staring at the moon. Something he realized this man does a lot.
“Let’s get going.”
He annoyingly nods at his partner's dry request and pulls the car keys out of his pocket.
He deeply sighs, sending a quick prayer to the goddess before getting in and driving off.
He still doesn’t know why he was partnered with someone like him.
He’s quiet and vicious, but his methods are still efficient. He’s already a perfect soldier. I don’t know what it is about him that the council want me to keep him an eye on him.
“So, how are you enjoying city life? Beats the woods, doesn't it?” He tries to make conversation, like he has been for the past year.
His partner just ignores him, like he always does whenever he’s asked pointless questions.
“I know you’re not much of a talker, but we still have about six months left of working together. The least you could do is make this dreadful partnership a little bit more bearable.”
“I’m not here for small talk.” He looks down on his phone again. “We finished our assignment early.”
Of course we did. The man thinks to himself. He always goes straight for the kill with our targets. Takes all the fun out of reconnaissance work.
“One whole week in this city, with just you and me. Yippee.” He dryly says to himself.
He sees his partner deeply focused on his phone. “You looking for something?”
The only thing he figured out about this man so far, was that he always takes out their targets ahead of schedule and then ends up disappearing in whatever town or city they’re in. He doesn’t know if he just likes sight-seeing, or if he likes to be alone. He always struggles to follow him though. Apparently he’s really good at hiding his tracks too.
Than man immediately puts his phone away.
“How about you and I go sight-seeing tomorrow? We can even go check out a few nightclubs to properly enjoy our time off.” He says with a suggestive smirk.
“I don’t like company.” He replies coldly.
The man sighs. “This is going to be a l-o-ng six months.”
“Just hurry up and get to our place, Callum. Unless you want me to start smearing this blood all over your car.” He threatens, getting a slight gasp from Callum.
Callum knows he’s not joking. This wild man has done it before, and he knows how difficult it is to get bloodstains out.
“Okay, okay. We’re almost there.” He grunts out as he steps on the gas. “Damn, Liam. Why do you always have to be such a grouch?”
