Chapter 1

The rain pounded on her back as she ran through the silent streets, only the flicker of the lights above to guide the way. If she made the next corner she could get away, jump the chain link, dive under the dumpster and in the hatch. Her rubber soles tried to grip the metal but each attempt ended in them touching the wet concrete. That’s when she felt it, the long thin icicles grabbing her hair. “NOOOO…” she screamed but it was no use, this part of the city had been abandoned years ago. She felt more of them surround her, each plucking her hair like a chicken getting ready for dinner. “Master will be happy, Master will be happy”, they chanted like a group of monks praying.

The mission took longer than the master had expected, he had hoped to have the girl cleaned and ready by dinner. She was in a state, her hair matted with dirt and unknown creatures, clothes ripped covered in blood and worst of all her face was scarred with severe bruising. He was going to have to drop her price, women are short of demand now days but this one needed extra work to be of his standard.

As her knees hit the cold stone floor, she looked up and tried to meet their eyes, see if any human was left within. Blank glass dics looked back at her, locking the door and stomping away. She lay on the ground trying to quickly take inventory of her injuries and what they had let her keep. Sprained ankle, a few gashes and possible broken ribs, this was good she thought maybe escaping was still an option. Her pockets empty. She was still exploring the room when they returned, cuffs and chains in their hands. They walked her up the halls and through corridors that seemed to lead to nowhere. When they stopped at this door, she knew this is it, her chances are gone and she must now meet her faith.
