Oil Rig
Hello, you. Thank you for giving this story a chance and thank you even more for reading this foreword. This is my first attempt at doing an action-based story. Please tell me your thoughts and criticize me to the max. Criticism is much better than silence. Anyhow, if this deserves a sequel, do tell on my wall. (I do have other stories of other genres though, so give them a read, hehe). Enjoy!
He had to constantly remind him of the necessity of his actions to quell his urges to flee. His brother had failed once, and he could not allow his emotions to suppress him like it did his brother. He lunged forward, striking the first man at his torso and deftly blocked an incoming strike from the second man. Adam’s azure blue contact lenses darted here and there, finding an opening to pass through as he was running out of time.
Outside, Idris stood watch, basking in the darkness as the moon was shrouded by heavy clouds, preventing any light to come through. A short, slender figure loomed out of the darkness and patted Idris by the shoulder. Idris swept his straggly, straw-blonde dyed hair aside and greeted Hawa who had a worried expression on her face. The two then just stood in the dinghy they were in, an unearthly silence filling the air.
Nuh held firmly onto a beam, struggling to keep his balance. He was a “Rough waves, eh?” he shouted out. Hud who was driving the boat let out a little chuckle before remarking “You should be grateful we’re not in a dinghy!” Tired of standing, Nuh sat on one of the many casks that were scattered on the boat. The boat would not stay still, bucking in the water. In the distance, Nuh could make out the jagged outline of several mountain peaks that stood tall and firm.
Aware that they were almost there, Nuh slid down the companionway and took out all necessary equipment. “Still salty we didn’t use the other ship, though.” Nuh remarked. “We’ll be detected with rigging that big, you idiot!” Hud laughed. Nuh later got off the boat and stepped onto the sand, marveling at the water cascading from the waterfall. Out of nowhere, a tumultuous wave crashed onto shore, catching Nuh off guard and drenching him in sea water. Hud who guarded the boat roared in laughter. This wave however nearly capsized the boat and it was now Nuh’s turn to laugh at Hud who was struggling to find his balance his hands aloft.
Hawa took another look at the plan and furled it up shortly after. She was fully aware that this operation would be fraught with danger but she still worried for the safety of his friends. “In a few more minutes he should come here, unsnag the hook, swim towards us and we’ll be on our way,” Hawa mumbled.
Adam got pass the two men on the first deck and headed up the second deck, where he was greeted by three stern looking men, all seemingly seething with anger at the sight of their beat comrades. Adam then went all out, not holding back his power, trying to catch up to the scheduled plan as one misdemeanor would mean failure. Adam dodged every attempt at striking him and clambered up the oil rig swiftly, ignoring the stairs.
Nuh headed plowed his way through the dense jungle, his sodden clothes slowing him down. Not long after he reached a cave where he took out a device from the sack of equipment he was carrying; a device which was bulky and cumbersome. Inside the cave, Nuh fretfully set up the contraption and turned it on, in which it illuminated the whole cave, much to his delight.
Nuh then surged forward at full speed deeper into the cave. He reached an in-cave pool of water and dived, holding his breath as he went deeper. Eventually he reached a pocket of water and as he climbed onto the rocks, he yelped in pain as a toe biter got him. He groaned as he experienced searing pain. “This is even worse than that time I stubbed my toe when Hud didn’t inform me we were running aground!”
Nuh valiantly trudged along, growing more despondent by the hour. Nuh then reached what looked like a research facility, but something seemed off. He slowly entered and peered around. It looked recently used, but by whom? Very faintly, Nuh could make out what sounded like muffled howling, indicating a tempest outside the cave. Nuh spotted a piece of paper that had a crude sketch of some kind of boat.
“This wasn’t there before,” Nuh remarked. As he said this, the howling outside grew louder, the tempestuous wind as if trying to make itself heard to Nuh. He remembered clearly how Hawa explained the plan to the gang in lucid manner. Then, Nuh heard someone that made his heart race. Footsteps. Someone was in the cave, above him! Perhaps they were the ones that entered the facility earlier! Nuh dug into his equipment sack and pulled out a cord, ready to garotte the intruders if necessary. This wasn’t his first time.
The footsteps got closer and closer and Nuh heard splashing. “They’re in the water”. Nuh decided to ambush the intruders and in leaving the facility, he nearly knocked down a tray full of sappanwood. Nuh stood on a ledge opposite the way towards the facility. Not long after, three intruders emerged from the water. Nuh’s plan had worked. He knew that they would head straight for the facility and not look back. Cord in hand, Nuh pounced.
Nuh strangled the first man with his cord and forced his head underwater. Holding the head of the first man with one hand, he used the other to parry an attack from the second man and land a heavy blow on him, causing him to fall in the water. However, the third man managed to land a double axe handle on Nuh. Nuh managed to just about block it but the force caused him to fall in to the water as well.
A medium overweight man slept soundly in his room, unperturbed and oblivious to the commotion outside. He lay on his bedding, snoring slightly. The doorknob then shook a little and was turned slowly. Adam entered silently and grabbed the oilskin coat hanged behind the door. He approached the sleeping man, his hands ready to put the oilskin to the sleeping man’s face. Then, he did the deed. Firmly he pressed the oilskin onto the sleeping man’s face and suffocated him. Soon, the man stopped struggling. The job had been done.
Idris was busy watching a video when Hawa tugged violently at him, pointing frantically at the hook. Emerging from the darkness, Adam came running, behind him a dozen men following suit. Adam promptly unsnagged the hook and dived into the water, swimming at full speed. Idris started the dinghy. The moment Adam climbed on, not even fully on board, Idris sped off. Hawa had to kick some of the men who managed to cling onto boat off. Fortunately for them, the three of them were safely away from the oil rig with no one following them.
