Precious Loss
The air was thick with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the sound of crickets chirping echoed through the quiet streets. It was the last night of summer and Emma and Liam were sitting on the front porch of Emma’s house, watching the sunset over the horizon.
They had been best friends since they were little, spending countless summers together, exploring the woods, swimming in the lake and having endless adventures. But this summer was different. Emma’s family was moving away, and this was their last night together.
The two friends were lost in their thoughts, watching the sky turn from orange to pink and then to purple. They didn’t need words to express their feelings, but they knew that they had to make the most of their last moments together.
“Remember that time we built a treehouse in the woods?” Emma asked, breaking the silence.
Liam smiled. “How could I forget? We spent weeks building it, and it was the best summer ever.”
They talked for hours, reminiscing about all their summer memories, the good and the bad, and all the adventures they had together. As the night wore on, the sky grew darker, and the stars began to twinkle above them.
Emma and Liam sat in silence, staring up at the sky, lost in their thoughts. Emma felt a lump in her throat, knowing that she would miss Liam so much when she moved away. Liam felt a tear run down his cheek, realizing that his best friend was leaving him behind.
Finally, Emma spoke up. “I don’t want to go,” she said, her voice trembling with emotion.
“I know,” Liam replied, placing his arm around her. “But we’ll always be friends, no matter where we are.”
Emma smiled weakly, feeling a sense of comfort in Liam’s words. They hugged each other tightly, not wanting to let go.
The night was peaceful, and the sound of crickets was the only noise that could be heard. Emma and Liam watched the stars twinkle above them, enjoying each other’s company, knowing that this was the last night of summer they would spend together.
As the night came to an end, they walked hand in hand to the end of the street where they would have to say their goodbyes. Emma and Liam hugged each other tightly, promising to write and call each other every day.
As Emma’s car pulled away, Liam stood on the street corner, watching it disappear into the distance. He felt a sense of loss, but he knew that Emma would always be his best friend, and nothing could ever change that.
And as he walked back to his house, he looked up at the stars above, knowing that somewhere, Emma was looking at the same sky, and they were still together, even if they were miles apart.
